You will be lucky to get the little tinker off! I managed a couple of times and the last one required a grinder...

Was probably like a bunch of adolescents watching Baywatch "oh please come off, oh please come off"

Hmm,

I'm not sure I've got any tinkers lol

Although I did see a pikey camp while cycling earlier. Perhaps they'll do instead

Also going to have to invent some sort of press to refit the new. Did it really take all 10 tons Kris. I'm thinking of a threaded rod through the hub and screw it back in as it were

Steve - you will not be able to get the bearing in or out using a vice or a threaded bar arranagement.

If you plan on DIY then you could always get a garage to do the "press" bit?

I can show you the metal plate ~10mm I bent pushing these damn things in and out...but maybe I've just been "lucky" again!

**update**

I found the problem lol
The hub nut was finger tight  (what [expletives deleted] kind of size is a 30mm deep socket anyway)

The wheelbearing has clearly been changed in the past so either it wasn't tightened or the bearing was not sitting correctly on the stub axle

However, I was unwilling to just tighten it up thinking that there could be bearing damage.
So apart it has all come. Took quite a lot of [several pages of expletives deleted to prevent swear filter overload] to get the hub carrier off the most difficult part being the [more deletion lol] ABS sensor which was well seized in, but off it now is.

Both bearing races removed leaving me to press out/in the main shell tomorrow and re-assembley

PS

Now it's all apart it's obvious that the bearing is in perfect condition :(

I assume the clicking noise was either brake pads into the grooved disck or movement in the axle splines. No signs of damage on the shaft though phew

Isn't the hub nut done up and then a split pin and cap shoved on?

Yep, the hub nut should have the hex retainer shell and split pin to stop it coming loose. Checked this on the EPC just to confirm

Were these missing Steve?

Nope. Both present and correct which is what's strange

So it either wasn't torqued or one of the bearing races moved

Today's joy

Inner race fixed to the shaft with Loctite 648 bearing retainer compound

Here's hoping for the best

All torqued up to 100lbf to hold the race in the correct position on the stub shaft.

It's one way from here. The loctite is semi-permanent requiring 200decC heat before the inner race can be removed from the shaft

Should be back together tomorrow

Providing I've picked the right loctite to stop the race spinning on the damaged shaft then it will be there saturday

I've currently got the whole assembley in the airing cupboard for 12 hours of 15 degC curing lol. There's a few raised eyebrows round here at the moment
