ECU was reset and fault codes did not come back after starting. Although car didnt move.

Fuel leak - looked like it was from a flexi hose that was only held on by spring clips (I suspect that is the return pipe as the feed is flared hard pipe IIRC and and spring clips wouldn't hold the pressure of teh feed).

Initially I thought it smelt very badly of fuel - later I foudn it leaking near the rear of the car so the smell was sourced more to that IMHO.

I knew some of the sensors run to dash then ECU but couldn;t remember if ST185 or ST205 or which ones!

The MOT sheet indicated the car was up to temp as oil temp was 103 deg C! how did they measure that? No oil temp gauge is fitted. Normally (ok may be old school) they ensured water temp gauge was hot or rad fans came on. Hence my thought that they had used water temp gauge from dash which is reading cok & bull!

Don is bringing over his PFC tomorrow which allows me to log all sensors during warm up - taht shoudl give me a lot more info to establish if there is a fault or not.

I've seen them stick a sensor down the dipstick tube bofore now.

I would have thought 0.86 lambda would smell like a car on choke.

Ah OK - never seen temp sensor down dipstick.

Fuel leak was smelling more than exhaust!

erin here- youll have to excuse me as i basically know nothing about my car but trying to relay back what i saw this afters. basically nechanic dropped tank out and found the pressured pipe to have a hole in it. he has said that he cant repair it as its pressured and has told me to buy a new pump. does this sound about right?!? cause to me it doesnt seem the right part to replace but again i know NOTHING!

On some cars the pump comes with the removable pipes & cover plate, this is probably what he's assuming. In our case, the pump is just the pump that goes inside. You need to get the pipes that the pump attaches to. Best bet is to hunt round people breaking 205's. Buy a whole tank if needed.

As Chris has said. He woudl have had much better visibility of the area if he dropped the tank compared to me laying under car so trust his findings.

As chris has said it is not the pump but the cover plate that contains the hard pipes.

Maybe try Toyota Celica breakers or may be worth a call to Toyota to see how much a new part is (in case a used one is almost rsuted as well!).

Plan of action is this :

Erin is having the tank and gubbins off of my car.
Saves forking out for one at moment and i dont exactly need it at moment.

In long term im now going custom alloy fuel tank for mine.

cool - let me know when you will have the car back with a fuel tank :-)

Don has kindly dropped off a Powe FC so I can log all sensors. In the interim I will look for my wideband/buy a new sensor so we can establish a bit more info.

I suspect the fix of the dash is going to be beyond my capability and available time but at least I can carry out some diagnosis and see if the lambda sensor and water temp sensor is functioning correctly as far as the ECU is concerned.

Hey Erin,

I normally use http://imageshack.us/ from my old US gaming server days (lol)

Quite easy to use and just need to copy in the link from "Thumbnail for forums" tab.

Hope that helps
