I have a knocking from the front off side (I think), it is very hard to be precise about the location.
It can be heard when the car is cold and when I lift off the throttle.
It becomes slower as the speed drops and sounds to be in time with the rotation of the wheels, drive shafts, transmission.
It doesnt increase / decrease with revs.

I have not been able to find anything loose or and slack / play in bushes etc.

I did find a split rubber boot tonight could this be the cause.
I have a picture but cant see the add attachment option, I will have to read up on how to.

Hmm,

Rotational speed related clunking sounds like like a CV joint to me. Is it a CV boot that's split (i.e. on on the driveshaft)?

Does it seem to get worse when cornering?

Other things to try
With the car switched off do you get any clunks when turning the steering wheel left/right

To try and minimize on out bandwith usage we don't have picture/attachment storage. You can sign up for a free online account (I use Photobucket which seems a popular choice)

dt4 - I agree with Steve, sounds like it COULD be a CV joint.

One way that is sometimes helpful is to drive the car on full lock to listen for the tell tale "Click Click Click", which normally would indicate a failed CV joint.

There is a guide to picture posting available from the main page, and also posted as a sticky which may help you get pictures displayed :)

Thanks folks.
I had a look at the cv joint and it appears to be weeping a bit of grease as there is grease around the outer (larger diameter) lip of the boot.
The boot is fine not split so may be the joint is on its way or shot?

The photo I took was of the stabilizer bar link on the drivers side front, the lower rubber boot is split. Could that also be a cause?

Could some one with the EPC provide a part number for the stabilizer bar link for a 1992 JDM 185 please. I have found it in Chiltons but it doesnt (appear) to have a part no listed.
