Hi Folks,

I need new brake pads for my ST205.

I've always used the TRD 'Fast Road' ones before and was very happy although these are now coming in at £150! Which seems quite steep.

I know Carbotech are supposed to be very good but these are even more expensive at ~£190+ and seem to be quite difficult to get hold of.

Any other suggestions? :)

What's the car used for? Pushing 350 bhp was it?

Speak to Ian at carbotech, they normally have a few on the shelf for the gt4s and if not, only takes them a few days to knock another set up. Found getting them direct from carbotech was the cheapest.

I think the trd fast road are probably the best for the application. Unless you are going to be tracking it often, I think the carbo's would be a little overkill. Short of those, your left with the ebc red or yellow which is ok but not anything special.

I went from trd fast road to ebc redstuff (yes I knew sod all at the time lol). Initial bite was nowhere near as good, however they would take a bit more abuse on track without fade. With hindsight I would not have changed over lol.

Mike, I thought you had fitted new EBC Yellowstuff when you rebuilt the rear brakes. Is it worth considering fitting the same on the front? I have them on Snowy and they have slightly superior bite/feel than the TRD pads. Despite the 'dustfree' claim on the carton they produce a lot more dust than the TRD's.

I might give them a try and that was my original plan but after purchasing them for the back I then read some poor reviews of them that are making me think twice.

I would suggest using the same front and back in order to maintain brake balance. A common problem is people upgrading the front only and winding up with less braking overall when it's needed as the fronts lock while the back is hardly doing anything.

I have heard that EBC had quality issues on a batch a while ago which has now been sorted. Seems the problems are only on redstuff, the yellows appear to be a better bet.

I had bad experiences with the yellow stuff but as you say theres mixed reviews so maybe I got some of the bad batch

The carbotech XP8 material are awesome and seem to work really well in the gt4 even just the fronts but by god there dusty mother chuffers albeit well worth it, if you go carbotech I get a small discount from ian on these which your more than welcome to

I have the XP8 carbotech in the front big brake conversion in my wrc and there seriously impressive

Trd pads as you already said are a nice pad also

Martin
