Yes, supposed to.
But do 3SGTE's suffer from headlift, and at what boost pressure is this likely to happen?

Same i stretched stock ARP head stoods on mine running 1.8bar and 400+bhp. I then changed to L19 (expensive but the only way to go IMO when building a high powered 3sgte) Then the block cracked after 16k.

What size, thickness are the head stoods on the other engines? IIRC the 3sgte are smaller than a few other engines and raceeng make a thicker head stood to stop them stretching but you need to get the block and head machined for them. But this also takes material away from the block around the head stood behind the water pump making that the next week link.

L19 FTW imo

its interesting that not all seem to have this problem, we havent, martin hasnt, some have... didnt phil build his own engine if i remember correctly?

Not saying he was wrong as he has far more balls and bravery than i would to build my own engine but just looking toward like said previous

IIRC mrbarry also thought he had head lift many moons ago. I don't recall if that was ever positively identified

At the end of the day there are many unknowns. How's many people have flatness and surface finish reports for the head/block machining work? How many have unsuspectingly bought fake bolts off egay? Etcetera etcetera

For peace of mind fit L19 bolts. In the grand scheme they aren't that expensive

Or wait and see how Don's engine turns out. Results should be available this decade

I'm currently running 1.6bar and putting out about 520brake at 1.6bar. Wonder how much I'll make at 2bar ;)

I have actually bought L19 studs for my build so am a bit of a hypocrite saying there not needed  but I havnt experienced any issues with head lift or head gasket failure up to yet using stock arp`s , I have got L19`s for mine because am not sure what sort of power I am looking to in the future so setting everything ready and in place incase

Well, I built the engine myself. I'm not what you would call an expert, but I'm fairly good in engineering and am confident in my ablities. I'll take it up in small stages - 1.8bar and if all is ok then 2bar :)

At the moment, designing a side feed inlet manifold. Going to use the lower section from a ST202 - pipes that bolt to the head, and design a plenum to work with it.

No, the 202 runners don't have butterflies. I'll be using a 80mm billet throttlebody.

It depends which branch of the 202 manifold you are planning to use

You are correct that the front plenum doesn't have them. However the top plenum which has no external air feed is connected via butterflies
