I have been looking at getting new cv boots for the ST205. Oem ones are stupidly expensive so I have been looking at those stretchy "fits all" cv boots, what are they like? Are they worth fitting or do they last 2 mins before they fall off or deteriorate and split?

If you can get the driveshaft apart, go for a proper OEM or a factors one to save some cash.

If you would need to damage / cut off a CV to get it apart then use a stretchy one. Hint - I know the video makes it look easy, but I think the guy has robot arms fitted, or has maxed out on steroids. Expect to swear. A lot.

We fitted a couple of stretchy ones last summer-ish I think, so we'll see how they get on in the forthcoming MOT's. I think one was Dans car, and he blew it up soon after so not much of a test.

I had a non-OEM 'stretchy' CV boot fitted to a rear drive shaft. It saves a lot of time as you don't have to dismantle the drive shaft. HOWEVER, the guy who did it used a mechanical 'expander' to get it over the DS. I'm not sure if the job would have been possible without this gizmo.

I would expect that if you score them from a local factors they would likely be reasonable quality as they are quite commonly used

AFAIK fitting is usually done with a stretcher cone if not removing the joints from the shaft

I don't know/can't remember how the shafts are connected to the joint. If you nose about on Kris and Loosey's gtfours site you might find some info - I think I remember them changing CV joints

Snap rings on the outer end. I think ditto on inner end. The 185 one unscrews to access the end of the driveshaft, the 205 doesn't.

I already have the driveshaft in bits so fitting isn't an issue, its just my local motor factors sells the stretchy CV boots for just a fiver and has no other options. I didn't want to buy them if they would break apart or split after a few miles and Inwould have to go through the process of dismantling the driveshafts again.

Thanks :)

Tight northerners

Try another factors or eBay. Most sell blueprint. Or try tcb.

I know this sounds dodgy but I bought the split ones from Halfrauds (the ones that glue together) and they have lasted 3 years now without signs of giving up. The glue that comes with it sticks like sh@t to a blanket even with the grease in places....

As a trial I fitted stretchy boots and my experience was .... utter crap!

Split after a few month so fitted conventional boots.

I have the nose cone adaptor to get the boots over the joints if anyone wants it? A beer token secures its release! Might even have the silicon spray too...

£35 + vat each from TCB

£50 + vat each from Toyota

£27 + vat for Blueprint

It all gets a bit expensive when you need 4 in total. :(

It's amazing how small items add up. I've just ordered the OEM windscreen fittings for the track toy and the total was well into three figures.

Good price, i am after the rears though, both inners and outers.

Is there any difference between the fronts and the rears?
