What options are available for ST205 rear brake pads? I've listed the ones I've heard of below

OEM Toyota
Predator Fast Road
EBC Yellowstuff
Carbotech
Mintex

Interested in peoples experience of the above particularly for fast road, trackday and race use. I have Performance Friction pads on the AP Racing front brakes so the balance is a factor.

I have Black Diamond on the rear of both of mine. Can't say much about them. They are pads, they stop the rear wheels and don't produce silly dust. Done numerous track days with road and sticky rubber without issue

I don't think you'll find anything off the shelf that's going to match the AP front setup so the bias adjuster is going to have to earn its keep!

I run Carbotech xp8's on my car as I am good mates with their sales manager so he managed to get me onto trying them.... and I have never looked back, they are superb and definately won't ever go back to EBC or the alike

I also used the black diamond for ages, seemed fine to me.

I think I will give the carbotechs a go for my next set of pads.

I use EBC Yellowstuff pads all round and have found them to be really good Initial bite from cold is far improved from yellowstuff pads of old and when upto temperature the bite is brilliant. Good price considering they are a track compound pad.

Loads of pad dust however, something to consider

I´ve used the EBC YellowStuff with the EBC TurboGroove discs all around for road and track in the past. Worked fine. Still use them on the rear as I put the AP Racing big brake kit to the front with the included Ferodo DS2500 who have a much worse cold bite compared to the EBC pads.

ENDLESS does several types. They're blue.

I use their Type-R on my CS (with 205 rear brakes) which offers great performance once hot. When cold they work ok, but not outstanding.

Spoke to Ian at Carbotech and described the spec of track toy. He has suggested XP6 pad co.pound to try and acieve a balance with the front AP Racing/Ferodo pad setup. He used to run an ST185 I believe.

Hi Don,

Do you mean the XP16? They don't appear to list a XP6 on their website.

I note from reading the specs that the XP8 pad which most people go for is recommended for cars weighing less than 1100kgs. Probably not that suitable for heavy track use on a GT-Four.

The info on the Carbotech web site is only a general guide. When I described my car spec and use the advice is XP10 pads. I certainly get the impression they know their stuff as they are asking all the right questions. However, the real test will be on track so shall reserve judgement till then

Oh, slight correction to my earlier post, the front pads are Performance Friction (01 material.

Carbotech are serious stuff... i run xp8 on the stock st205 discs and have done a solid 40minute abust of Cadwell and had 0% brake fade, but I would go for 10's on a proper track car.

Ian or Tyrone as we call him runs in the MLR and runs his cars on Carbotechs (obviously) and after trying them after taking off my EBC pads.... well, all I can say is they are out of this world only on the XP8 compound.

If there is something Ian doesnt know about brakes... its not worth knowing about basically

And most definately Don... you wont be dissapointed, the bed in period goes like this....

30-0 3 x at medium brake..

60-0 3 x mid to hard brake

70+ -0 3 x Hard as possible..

then you are done. :)

Hi Dale,

I wasn't suggesting they wern't serious pads - just that from the description perhaps it wasn't the right compound - if people are getting good results from the XP8's then :D

I will probably get a set for my next pads.

My bad there sirius! didn't mean to sound like i was saying that! :-D

just meaning for the normal guys or girls that do like some track use but a road car too tied 8 are good, reason being is that basically our calipers and discs are so big and good that they are the equivalent to say xp10 or 12 on a car the same weight with single pot.

if you see what i mean like. :-)
