In fact, F@@k it, where can I get a PROPER rebuild kit and I'll do it myself! (as you can probably tell, I'm not happy!)

If you rebuild it yourself I would wager that it would fail quickly. You have no way of balancing it.

How much are TD wanting for the work?

The turbo is perfoming fine, it just smokes a bit on idle.
TD say that wastegate lever needs to be rebuilt (bull@hit!)
They also said that if they open it up, some other stuff "might" need machining and would bring the cost up to £400-£500.
If I choose for the work not to be done, they would give it back to me in peieces??? *bleep*! Oh and this was told to me one day before I'm supposed to be picking it up, so its been sat in the workshop gathering dust.... (one week later...)

Its MY turbo, Its ME who decides what I want done to it!!! I even said I would sign a disclaimer saying I would not hold them responsible if it failed after their rebuild... (they said no) Fair enough, I'll be there tomorrow to pick it up and it better be in one piece.

I have disassemble the turbo about a year ago and marked where the intake wheel sat on the shaft so kept the same balancing from before. It works fine.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather pay up to £350 to get the work done BUT I ONLY WANT THE BEARING AND SEAL TO BE DONE! NO MORE COST!

Remain calm.

I suggest you go to google and find someone else.

Personally my feeling is that if the turbo is smoking then its in need of a rebuild - get it done and enjoy another 30k+ miles of use without worrying about it.

If it were my turbo I would not have dismantled it myself. It's a precision component spinning at over 100,000rpm so the risk of something going wrong with your reassembly is considerable. Anyway, that's all water under the bridge now. If the seals have gone you would be better off getting it rebuilt properly with a warranty.

I used aet turbos in wakefield for my rebuild , practically new everything bearings/seals/compressor wheel/wastegate housing etc . With carriage and vat a tad over £600, hoping it stays in one piece for a while , so £350'ish is i think a reasonable amount, but tbh i think you're very much in their hands when dealing with turbos and cant really argue too much about what needs doing/replacing when we dont know :( .

have a word with martin kingston
he's got a genuine honest guy doing all his turbo rebuilds theyve just redone the one on my works previa after 3 other places failed to do it properly

prices i believe are starting at £250 for bearings and seals after that it starts to go up if the shaft is needed blades etc but he tells you before anything is done and if you only want a certain thing doing and willing to sign a disclaimer then at a guess they'd do that also??

in the end you can but ask and its only the cost of shipping it upto blackburn and back
