Are they expensive from toyota? can the sponge bits be bought separately? I tried to fit my own but due to the WORLDS poorest design, it will only work with low friction sponge that is a gnats whisker wide... Who made them? Surely not Toyota??

What places have you tried for foam?
Could you elaborate on what you are trying to do. I'd imagine the vents to be quite expensive from Toyota.
Somewhere like 'woolies for trim' can be useful for this sort of thing.

Ive got a spare dash vent for the right side of the steering wheel if you need the foam off it

Thanks, can you see if the foam is intack in it? Ive seen about 7 of these and all had perished foam in them..
My vents just blow cold air on to my hand when shut off. Sponge does not provide the seal anymore..

I also have this problem - my drivers side air vent blows cold air from the external air feed wherever the wheel position is set. Where is the flap door for this portion of the system loated? The 3 position wheel feels very loose too so something is probably broken.
You could try using a razor blade to trim down some draft excluder foam to the correct thickness and glue it in the slot on the flap. I did this on my old MR2 on the center vent foam seal using UHU all purpose adhesive.
If you're not bothered about the dedicated drivers external air feed working you could block the intake for it - I think I saw it when I removed the wipers and scuttle panel to solve a rattle - it could easily be duck taped over. The main recirc/fresh air intake would not be affected.
