What are these actually called. They have movement in them but I believe it seems excessive so I want to replace them, the reason being, I have had problems with warped discs and wobbly braking. New calipers and standard discs ( not eBay drilled and grooved anymore) have solved this hopefully. I'm still in the easy driving stage, what I did realise the clunk and grind when applying has returned periodically. Potentially this is the start of me being back in the same boat.

Everything has been greased and replaced properly and I came to a thought maybe this occurs because of light application of the brakes or overly light deceleration. Is this possible?

Anyhoos maybe the excessive play in these bits is causing instability when braking. All other bushes seem firm and not worn.

Those are anti roll bar drop links.

They are a common wear item, you can get replacements from eBay or a motor factors for not much money.

They can be a bit tough to remove sometimes.

They are held on with a nut but the only way to stop the bolt part turning is a small Allen key in the end of said bolt - look on the web for images and hopefully you will see what I mean
Usually on old ones the nut is rusted to the bolt and the Allen key slot is also rusted. When you try to undo the nut you use a ring spanner on the nut with an Allen key through the middle to stop the bolt rotating. When both are rusty what often happens is the Allen key rounds out. The bolt then spins so the nut doesn't undo leading to large donations to the swear box
The solution is to use lots of heat and penetrating oil from the start to get everything moving

I would pre soak them for a few days with plusgas gt85 or duck oil etc to give you the best chance of removing them easily.

A good air gun will get them undone. If you have one or know someone with one.
With air gun, its 30 seconds to change one side ;-)

Nice one guys.

Have ordered a new pair from Andrew pages. £9.50 each.

I'll see what I can arrange. I'll gas it as a prelim then see if I can get an air gun on them.

Much appreciated.
M.

If you're replacing them anyway, don't waste time - just go straight for the angle grinder. Cut vertivally down (as if making a screwdriver slot) and stop just short of the bottom so you don't damage the ARB or strut. You then use a hammer & chisel to split the nut off the bolt, the bolt will then go through the hole.

If you do want to preserve the drop links, then the trick is (after soaking in wd40) to undo the nut until it goes tight, then spray WD40 and do it back up (not tight) then spray with wd40 and go again. Hopefully you get slightly further each time. If you undo hard enough to round off the allen key it's game over and angle grinder time anyway. Usually the nut is far enough off to be able to just cut it off without damage to the roll bar / strut.

Thanks so much. I don't think I'll have a requirement for them after and they are quite past it.

So angle grinding it is.

I'll have a proper nosy at the old and new one to make sure I'm not hacking away at my car

Should I take any measures to protect the new nut? Or let it rust in peace ?
Thanks.
