hi guys, ive just found a piston on one of my callipers has stuck solid,im going to just replace it with a refurbished one, is it worth doing the other side just in case, or would that be just throwing money @ it for the sake of it?.

one more question, ive seen the stop tech pads on fennsport, any good as there are way cheaper than the trd fast roads I was going to get.

thanks in advance for any replies :)

So long as the pistons in the calipers are free moving there isn't really any need to refurb or change them. I think the refurb kits are almost the same prices as new calipers!

Regarding pads, TRD pads are good if you are doing track days but I've also used OEM Toyota pads on a track day at Donington and they worked fine on my near standard 260bhp ST205 so if you want to save money go with OEM. Depends on your car's state of tune and intended use.

thanks,im going for exchange callipers just bolt on. The one I've taken off actually has a seized piston wont budge, is there any possibility that the other side might start to play up once I've replaced the o/s front calliper or would it be spending for spending's sake?.

If you are not confident in testing caliper to make sure the pistons are working properly (i.e. moving in and out freely) it would be worth doing both at the same time. The last thing you want is for the car to pull to the left or right under heavy braking as this can be dangerous in certain situations. I would recommend you flush the old brake fluid with new by bleeding the whole system. Normally the old fluid will be a different colour to the new fluid due to contamination so it should be easy to spot when you have bled and recharged the whole system.

yeah I was planning to change the fluid, as for the callipers I think I 'm going to bite the bullet and go for the pair as the last thing I want to do is have to re strip the other side, may as well replace both, looks like the bank card is going to get some action. lol

Depending on how mechanically minded you are it can be cheaper to refurbish your calipers rather than buy exchange ones. It depends how many pistons need replacement and you only know that one you have taken them out.
