ok update, i think ive found it, is it on the manifold by the distributor? if it is should this be the opposite side of the manifold to the crate's ive scanned a thread on here from dorris which has some really good pics on and checked mine and the sensor on my 205 is the same side as the distributor but the crates is on the is on the oppposite is the the same thing?

All the coolant temperature sensors are mounted on the 'water elbow'. This is bolted on the side of the head amd turns 90 degrees forwards (hence elbow). The radiator top hose then attaches to it (via turbo water intake on 185).

On a 205 there are 2 sensors, the single wire one is for the gauge, the double wire one is for the ECU. (there may be another for EGR system on uk cars but not certain).
