Hi guys needing to replace my front near side driveshaft seal on my st205. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a guide or give me any tips. I know the basics but not sure how you get the driveshaft itself out and I have heard there is a clip on the back? How do I get this clip off. This is my first post on here I'm a new gt4 owner and thaught I'd get straight in there with a problem.
Thanks guys

Have a look at Kris and Lucey's site here: http://www.gtfours.co.uk/site_map.htm
Then click on the link path as below
->Suspension->Change 205 front driveshaft

This explains exactly what you have to do and is illustrated as well.

Please credit the site if you cross link or refer to it in any posts.

It looks like links are broked if you go via the site map. If you go to gtfours.co.UK and navigate via the menu it works for me

The driveshaft will just pull out but you might need to improvise a slide hammer to persuade it

Thanks mate so there's nowhere to get a pinch bar in? And anyone know what thread for the slide hammer? I still can't seem to get on that part of the site unfortunately

Try this link

http://www.gtfours.co.uk/index.html

Also when I did mine, I managed to pull my drivers side shaft by just pulling the shaft by hand, and refitting was a bit harder, but once aligned, it went in quite easy.

I remember reading the near side is harder, but that may be to replace the seals?

Take a good read before starting the job.

Cheers

OK, the link does not take you directly to the page, and on some PCs does not format well, but you can try this.

Click the link, top left there is yellow or white area with selection boxes.

Click the 2nd one down "How to" and that should open up.

Then click the 2nd one down "Suspension" on the bit that opened up.

It will open up again, then click the 4th one down "Change 205 front drive shafts" and you should be on the correct page.

Hope it works for you ?

From memory, undo the 3 bolts/nuts that hold the plate carrying the lower arms to the hub. Turn the steering to full lock so as to lengthen steering arm on that side. The front hub should then be able to pull out far enough to get the driveshaft out. I don't think you need to take the outer joint from the hub, I think there's enough room to get just the inner out & drop down out of the way.

The inner CV joint has a snap ring to hold it into the gearbox. They sometimes come out with just a tug by hand, otherwise it's often easier to give them a tap from behind using a bar & lump hammer to get them loose. DON'T use a screwdriver or crowbar to lever out as there's a thin plate to keep stones away from the seal which will be damaged.

I'm glad you posted on this as I'm doing a drivers side inner cv boot tomorrow and this could save me a lot of time. If you hadn't posted I wouldn't have remembered. Great bit of advice that

Turns out I need to replace the inner CV boot too. Unfortunately I have also discovered some unwanted movement in the suspension which is going to get expensive.

What needs replaced mate? I just done my lower control arms and it was a bit of a pain. Unfortunately I still have a slight knock from the passenger side. Possibly from me getting carried away with my hammer lol. Hopefully iv just left something loose but will probably replace my drop links

It looks like the same - lower control arm - but on the OSF. I'm going to focus on the clutch for now and do the CV boot as I put it back together. Once the suspension's all back together and tight I'll see how bad it is. I'd like to actually drive it a bit! I was wanting to paint the front sub-frame too but I'll see.

I saw those, and they are tempting at the price. I know there are concerns with them being from an unknown fabricator.

I am in Kirkcaldy... didn't know there was any other 'locals' on here - where are you based? I'm hoping to get the old gal on the road soon so there may be an excuse for a mini-meet to exchange notes. There's not many Fours on the road about here! That said, someone round the block from me appears to have aquired a nice red ST205 a few weeks ago.
