Hi guys just a quick question. I was wondering when your cars reach full boost. Mine hits it at about 3750rpm. Is this normal? It's a 205 btw. Thanks for your help guys

do you have an after market boost gauge?

if so what is your max boost @ 3750pm , and in what gear are you accelerating when observing your readings?

I usually accelerate in 3rd gear up a hill so it rises fairly slow. I don't have an aftermarket boost gauge at the moment but I used to and it still hit 0.9 bar at about 3500 to 3750. What do you guys think is this ok?

Standard turbo should get up to 0.9 bar by 3K latest especially under heavy load up a hill.

It coudl be you have a hybrid (probably a bar one if it spools like that!) or a foobarred turbo

Nooooo bad answer haha. Il try again when I have a chance and get some exact numbers but it's definately after 3000. How do I check my turbo? And could it be a boost leak or timing off by any chance? Thanks mate

Just a quick update. Tried on my way home from work this morning and the stock boost gauge didn't even reach the top in 3rd or 4th. Usually it goes past this. It was a cold day but I had gave the car a good 15 mins of driving to heat up. I suppose a good first step would be a boost leak test? Will this also test all the vacuum hoses or only the ones before the throttle body? Iv noticed sometimes my idle drops to 1000 before then going down between 750-800 so maybe indicates a vacuum leak. Still looking for as many opinions as possible and thanks for the help so far

If you have an aftermarket downpipe it's not unknown for the wastegate to jam open leading to low boost, especially at lower RPM. I doubt this is your problem though as I'd expect boost to be lower still.

A leak big enough to spill as much boost as you seem to be losing is likely to be quite a large leak, I'd expect you to be able to hear it hissing under boost. Likely places for such a leak are dump valve not sealing properly (could just be the small vac line from manifold come off) or a split in either the hose from turbo to intercooler or from intercooler to throttle body. I have even seen the throttle cable bracket mounted on the wrong side of the throttle body rubber leaving a gap !!!!

If there is a leak on the manifold side of the throttle body, it is sometimes possible to find it by spraying WD40 around the area and listening for engine RPM change.

Fair point CDB - I had similar issues when the throttle body rubber wasn't done up!
