Are you specifically looking for a later block as used in the Caldina or are you looking for a block that can be used in a Caldina?

The blocks are pretty much interchangeable between ST2x5

Im looking for a later 3SGTE block because in the last blocks ST215 and ST246 Toyota solve the block cracking problem.

I would be interested to see the evidence for that?

technically there isnt a block cracking problem id say its an "I want to much power problem" :)

Seen cracked 165,185,205,215,246,5sfe etc all. TTE block is the only one that hasnt afaik.

Block cracking contributing factors. Overboard block, too much torque, bad cooling, bad mapping, etc.. etc..

TTE blocks fail as well if you push them too far.

Think you're right about the "too much power and other contributory factors..."

There is an upper safe limit for power though, even when those 'other factors' are addressed - and I have seen it said that the block strength does rise in something like the following scale ST205 <ST215 < ST246 < 5sge < TTE (or similar).

There is still going to be a point when even the TTE block lets go though (or maybe some other component that has become the weakest link).

What's you plan OP, Really big power, overbored to increase capacity?

Its not so much a case of it solves the cracking problem but the later generation blocks have a different material specs, plus also are designed to give more metal around the water pump head stud area opposed to the earlier models.

I have tested all the versions and wall thickness is negligible between them all, but there is definitely a materiel spec change as well as design on the st215 onwards. St246 is the same design again.

Hope that helps

Do you know what the change in the specification of the material was/is?

I don't I'm afraid, the information i did hear is that the material changes made them more pliable when under pressure. Most likely to flex over crack when at the limit.

How true this is I really couldn't confirm.

sorry I couldn't be clearer on it.

Although the machine shop does say the swarf is different when machining a later generation block compared to the earlier versions. So there must be something slightly different
