Hopefully someone can help.

Ive got a rev3 engine in my 185 inc wiring and ecu etc fmic clocked turbo.

Oil pressure has been lower than 15 psi at idle and the oil light comes on at idle.

Oil pump was replaced about 2000miles ago

My mate has removed the oil pressure sensor and no oil is coming out the head?

Oil has been drained and refilled.

Any ideas please.

Pump was changed along with cambelt in a toyota garage in Belgium due to a seizure of it and the belt snapping.

Does the top end sound noisy ? The only time I've heard of something like this was when a freshly built engine had the hg fitted the wrong way blocking an oilway :? , but that was showing no pressure at all not surprisingly .

The car is in my garage I'd say its a little bit of tapping from the top end it did have oil pressure after the new pump and cambelt but it seems to have dropped to almost nothing. The only leak I can find is on the turbo oil feed pipe

If no oil comes out of the pressure sensor hole when removed, how did it read 15psi ?

Does the engine make a big end knock for a second or 2 when first started in the morning ?

How long has it been like this ?

This happened when he was just arriving at my house its been in mY garage ever since from cold it sounds okay and has around 15psi which drops away as it warms up. There is no knock when you first start it

Does the pressure go up to a sensible amount when it's revved ?

Maybe pressure relief valve sticking open or come unscrewed. I haven't stripped one to know the detail, but I remember someone having a similar issue with it coming unscrewed. I can't remember who though.

Cheers for the insight Ill have a spare on one of the engines I have kicking about ill take it off and swap it out and see if there is a diffrence

With cold oil, at startup you should have over 40psi pressure, by 1500revs you should be be 60psi. That was what I recorded off my ST165 with oil starting at just under 10 degrees Celcius. Within 30 second the idle pressure ( due to warming ) should be down to 30 psi and about 50psi at 1500 revs.

Bgb has specs of pressure at 80 degrees celcius at idle and 3k iirc.

Either way 15psi at startup is very bad ! At end of oilway ( the warning low pressure switch on the head ) should always see 15+ psi . if not something is wrong and needs to be investigated before you wreck bearings internally.

If the bottom end isn't rattling at startup, then it's probably undamaged or at least salvageable at this stage.

Diagnose the problem before you even think about a rebuild or you could find a newly built engine going to scrap.

Removing a 185 sump with the engine in-situ is less than an hours work and may reveal the problem at a glance. (crossmember off - 11 bolts + 2 engine mount bolts. Sump = loads of M6 bolts / nuts.)

Yeah were going to investigate it first

Its a 205 engine in there, we only just replaced the engine in April and the cambelt snapped on my way to Germany in Belgium, so had the work done at a toyota garage in Gent, my mate removed the pressure valve and found sealant blocking it, sounds like it could be the garage using to much when they changed the oil pump.

Hopefully it hasnt done a great deal of damage.

I dont really want to brake it. Cause its a solid car, ive put bc coilovers on it and changed most of the front bushes just the rear to do really.

Me and my mate swapped the engine over to a 205 one including the internal wiring, took a bit of magic to retro fit the popup headlights into the loom but we managed it, we clocked the turbo, front mount fitted, battery moved internally along with dropping the rear tank to use a 205 fuel pump and 205 front and rear brakes fitted. The job took a while but thoroughly enjoyed it infact I'd go as far as to say a labour of love due to the fact that on a few occasions I'd have a clear friday evening so would start at about 8pm and walk out the garage and it would be daylight, thinking I'd only been in there a few hours and not 10 lol

Don't worry mate we will save it one way or the other ill try get the sump off this week if I get time and check the oil pickup. As Colin said I removed the oil pressure valve today to find it blocked with the same sealant the garage have used to do the sump which clearly is a touch on the worrying side

A reasonable chance there's another lump of gunk lodged in an oilway, or maybe more likely the oil filter is gunked up.

While the sump's off, investigate carefully, especially the drilling in the sump from oil pump to filter. I wouldn't expect particles of significant size to get past the filter but look carefully to see if there's any sign of the gank AFTER the filter. If so, you should ideally remove & completely strip the engine, failing that you can access most parts in situ- all except the bits from oilway to crank.

I have heard of GEN7 lift bolts & control systems suffering from using this gunk on the sump.

Doesnt look good.

What would you say the grey stuff is caused by? The garage putting to much sealant on the pan? Especially as you can see where it is on the mating surfaces.
