So I have x2 st205's at the moment

the JDM car is slightly over the max line on the oil level

but the uk car is probably about half an inch above and the oil level light is coming on once the car warms up, this im guessing is not a broken sensor but rather it telling me there is too much oil.

Im driving this car daily at the moment and its due to be serviced early next week. is there a trick to filling these cars up, and maybe someone has done it wrong and overfilled it

Whoaaa! 1/2 inch that's waaayyyy overfull.

There is no trick, just like all other cars add the oil slowly after the change / leave to settle for a few mins then check and repeat as necessary.

I usually pour about 3.5 litres in and then slow down and start checking.

Perhaps they just looked at the figures for oil capacity and chucked it in.

I find you never get quite as much oil in as the book says.

Briano, my UK WRC regulaly flashes the 'low oil level' light at me (the orange one) it seems to be a common problem with the UK model. It's that bad I stuck some tape over the bulb :)
I'd be worried about oil leaking onto the clutch, with that much in, btw!!

Agree with Jeff. The oil light in my UK car became unreliable so I removed it and put an oil temperature sensor in its place. I check the oil level regularly anyway so don't see it as a problem.

car is running fine just now, service booked for this saturday to get everything sorted.

car is not being driven on boost at all just now, having too much oil in an engine does concern me also but its not mega more and its not leaking anything + clutch operation etc is all fine (clutch feels brand new)

Pleased about that. BUT.... why not just drain a bit of oil out?
Services can be expensive???? Basic maintenance,,,, you can do :)
Go for it mate????

I'd say at the amount over that you quoted you probably do have significantly too much oil in there. It's easy to drain some out - all you need is a 14mm spanner. and a bucket or something to collect a bit of the oil in.

A basic service on the ST205 is really very easy, the hardest part is jacking the car up, putting on axle stands and getting the undertray off which is still very simple.

i normally do stuff like that myself, but lack of time due to work commitments just now and ther fact the car already has a full service history it just makes more sense to get it done at my friends garage (someone i trust)

the other GT4 i have has zero history and i serviced that myself

I have been meaning to stop by DIY car services in Govan to drian half a litre but again haven't had a chance :(
