Post subject:  ST185 Heater/blower resistor replacement

-91 All track has issues with the blower motor. Only Off, low and max work. The two middle ones do not blow any air (maybe on low level?). Got the comment from the last yearly check of the car (MOT?) that blower needs to be more reliable. Expect the issue to be the resistor and got one from TCB. Now have two more issues related:

1) The 2nd hand resistor arrived in a setup, where it looks like the resistors pins are attached (glued?) to a white ceramic box. Not able to remove by (my) hand strength only. Is this correct? Should the white ceramic box be removed or kept before installing? When looking in eBay etc, never seen the white apparatus attached. Box is for pin protection while transport and is heat glued?

2) Location of the resistor itself under the bonnet? Looking in the diagrams, but not able to locate it or the best way to relace the component.

Any advice appreciated.

BR,
jukka

Photos would be helpful.

I've not looked at this part of the heater system, but I'm not aware of the resistor being in the engine bay - I've certainly never seen it. I would expect it to be under the dash or in the heater box itself (for fan air cooling). Probably the best place to ask for advice locating it is TCB themselves as they strip these cars and will know.

Also, there are 2 types of heater systems which are very different. The JDM cars have 'climate control' which is an automatic temperature control. The UK versions just have a cold/hot dial. I'm not sure which version you have.

I very much doubt the resistor would have been glued into 'transport packaging'. Far more likely it's intended to stay attached.
