Post subject:  spare knock testing

ive got a spare knock sensor, but im unsure if its a working spare or not
obviously without test fitting it to see if its working
(I don't really want to go to that much trouble if possible?)
is there a sure way of testing them ? Ive read that you can hear a rattle when shaken
but its not a definitive method

(this can be merged with my other code 52 post if the staff see fit)

Seems a useful thing to know how to do if its possible. No need to merge posts :)

Not aware that it's posible, not electrically with a meter anyway.

In theory, place on a loudspeaker driven at the resonance frequency (6-8KHzx from memory) and measure the AC voltage out. Not actually set this up to try so unsure of the sound levels required.

I'm now envisaging Marcus testing in something like the first scene from Back to the Future where he plugs the guitar into all those amplifiers! :D

If you have an oscilloscope, you can wire it up and set the volts/div to 500mV (or less) then tap it gently and see if you get and output..

thanks for the detailed replys, i had looked into it before hand
and it seems its like niblettr explained and a little beyond the average DIY`er
even in the toyota repair manual, im sure its more of a swap-out part rather than test part
i think when i come to changeing mine and checking the wire, i will try the one i have
and have a new one to order on standy
in my mind its one of those parts that needs to be brand new, just to rule out its working 100%
