For 185 or 205, you can check the cam end by removing the upper cam belt cover. There is a dot on 1 spoke of each cam wheel, Mark the tooth on the pulley adjacent ( I use tippex) and use this tooth against the ridge at the top of the backplate behind as the marker.
On 205 (Don't think 185's have this) you can alternatively remove chargecooler, throttle body and cam cover. You can then see a notch at the top of the front cam bearing for each cam, and the cams also have notches. These marks are more accurate than the ones on the pulleys as you are not liable to get parallax error.
Either way, rotate the crank pulley clockwise with a 19mm socket until the mark on the crank pulley lines up with the 0 mark. If the marks on the cam are 180 degrees out, then rotate the crank another turn and then line up the mark again.
The marks on the cams/pulleys should now line up with the fixed marks.
