I was wondering if anyone could help me here, I'm a bit stuck in this one...

ST165 - Ignition on or car running - No brake lights, tail lights, instrument gauge lights.

Indicators ok.

Press the brake pedal - headlights pop up with lights on. Can't get them back down unless the key is removed.
Turn the heater blower to one mark past low - headlights pop up with lights on. Can't get them back down unless the key is removed.

Sounds to me like a short or bad earth somewhere. PITA as it seems I'd begin by tracking down all the earth points for the wiring and make sure they're ok. If that doesn't show anything obvious up then trace wiring loom in general and check for chafing/bare wires that might be shorting out and causing the faults. Either way it's going to be a long, tedious job :( Is there another owner living near you that you know who'd be willing to help out? Jobs like this always go better/quicker with a friendly helping hand and some beers afterwards of course ;) Good luck whatever the case though! :)

Cheers,
Mark

Solved. Sadly self inflicted. After checking all the earths and taking apart half the interior, I revisited the fuse board by the kick panel.

Just because it states no fuse, doesn't mean something shouldn't be there. Missed out a jumper link, which is the 'short pin' in Toyota terms. All good now.

Nice to see a simple solution, I thought this was going to lead into all sorts of problems.
