hi there,

i have just spoke to ian from toyauto. the guy seriously knows his stuff.
I m going to do the checks that he has advised me. then i will let you know.

my mechanic did say the hose from hell was a bleep hose from hell.
ian said this weather could be the steam and the slight coffe looking residue under oil cap could be normal condensation. and with what two oh five says . i really really hope its ok. well see

is it the same job to upgrade a h/g as replacing a blown one?

im sorry two oh five. never nswered your quetion.i did not get any hydrocarbon test results. i do hope its this pipe. and the replacement pipe will sort it. will try tis afternoon. will let you know after teaching tonight.

The procedure for replacing the head-gasket should be pretty much the same for an upgrade or a replacement.

You should be looking at fitting ARP head studs and getting the head itself checked for warping by an engineering place. If it is warped it will need skimming on a milling machine.

hi all i have checked my car doing what ian from toyauto said and my car passed all his checks.
my heaters are working,
i ran the engine and there was no smoke bar the usual floaty light stuff. nothing abnormal colour smell anything.
i aran the engine till the fan came on and off then checked the preesure int he top hose. it had compression wasnt solid and all seemed fine.
so...
is my mechanic talking shite or is this block test accurate. like you said though i have to ask him what he tested. havent sdeen him
if i passed ians tests which you all are probably more familiar with then would that give me an all clear or could i still have a blown h/g
oh there was a little bit more cappucino creeam in the top of oil cap. but it wasnt mayonaise lloking like ian said. could this be condensation coz my car has been idle for a few days.

thanks sorry for the babble.
mahender
 dont know if i can breathe out yet

Hope it does work out for you

If you've been making a few short runs in this cold then the oil will be showing slight mayo signs by now, it's a natural thing

Replacing a blown gasket and upgrading are the same thing. If you wanted to gamble, you could avoid then warp test when upgrading (if it wasn't blown then the head should be straight etc. etc) but IMO this is not a wise choice given that if it needs a skim you'll be looking at not that much money anyway

It's a pretty simple test so many places should be able to do it

You can do it yourself too. I'm sure Halfords sell the kit (about 30 squid as I remember) andd I'm sure other motor factor places will offer something similar. Best to do a little bit of phoning about

hello all
its leaking again from the same area under the car. not sure if its oil or fluid ( sounds stuipid i know) the coolant has drained but there was clear fluid under the car dripping gently, maybe this is the thermostat housing?
so im off the road again. i dont think its hose from hell again or at least hope not. having a look tomoro.
do i need any special tools or just spanners and wrenxhes and sockets/
thanks.
i am going to search for links and threads now.would i have to remove the intercooler sheild or can i do the radf way. it may be a different perished hose. maybe should have asked the guy to change all of them. doh.
any one any tips on removing the plastic underneath nuts they are stuck and annoying.

use a 10mm 6 sided socket. instead of winding the screw out in one go, screw it in and out repeatedly (in small steps) to increase your chances of removing the complete screw :)

if you can, get a sheet of clean plastic and lay it under the engine bay. the overnight drip contents might give you a clue
oil is black
antifreeze is generally green or red
water is clear

Mahender, either way has it's problems!

However, I think it will probably be easier to go from the bottom up.

You can always get new bolts for the under trays, and in the long run I think it will be a slightly easier job?
