Have you got a stud extractor? If you have then you could always use a bolt until you can get a replacement stud?

Thats a PITA mate. Hard enough getting to them let alone them snapping. Hope you get it sorted. If it's any consolation the studs/nuts are very cheap from Mr.T.

Hummm, sounds good & cheap so keep talking to me.
It's the stud under the alternator so I’m guessing it’s a case of off with the alternator & then use a stud extractor to remove then screw in a new stud & bobs your uncle??

So where do I get a good stud extractor then??

Cheers guy’s your giving me hope

Not sure if the 205 WRC thermostat housing is the same as the st185 CS but there are 2 x 10mm studs holding the thermostat housing to the block.

Fair few on ebay:

Daz, reckon these would get the stud out, providing there is enough of it protruding from the housing?

Access is awkward but you should be able to get in there without removing the alternator...

With the cover off the end of the alternator you can see a bit more...

This is where my problems started, I couldn’t get the alternator heat shield off & gave up before I rounded the nut off (Cant get a socket in & a spanner just started to round the nut).

I wish it was the thermostat nut you can see in the pictures, it’s the other one on the left hand side under the main alternator gubbings, to drill the stub to get the extractor on I’m sure the alternator will have to move

Yes you'll need to remove the alternator to get that bolt out with an extractor mate. PITA indeed. When you order the new stud/nut from Mr.T get 2 of them as they are easily lost if you drop it in the engine bay. I made that mistake.

Shame there is not a breif guide to the alternator removal is it looks more complicated than any other car I have seen.

Anyone got the EPC product numbers for the stud & nut from MR T??
Will give the alternator removal a go tonight to see what is left of the stud & how much room I have to work with.

Fingers crossed. :? :?

Cheers Don.

Ok here is the latest then, & it's looking good providing I can get the alternator fully off (Having problems with the lower bolt & it's started to round off  )

So below is the 2 studs, plenty left on to use a stud extractor I hope.

Image

Have noticed that the lower right stud doesn't screw into a block, just a machined lip so that gives me a chance to work out what way the other stud is threaded on & get it removed.
Also looks like I have bent the lower right stud down a bit or are they inserted on a slight downward angle?? who knows but its going to get replaced anyway.

Has anyone got the part number for the bottom alternator bolt please??
It's a good idea to change this as it is starting to round off.

Also I have managed to get my hands on the TRD thermostats for £51.81 delivered if anyone else is interested?? (UK Fensport stock not due in till mid May 2006 & cost £63.70 delivered)

krude a set of round jawed moles might get the stud out ok as suggested. Its a case of doing it up ft and moving it backwards & forwards to extract the stud. Don't just try winding it out or you could end up making things a little worse. I'd say it looks like it should come out np and I've had to remove a fair few broken studs in the past.

Saying all that you can't beat a good snap-on stud extractor though imho.

good luck,

tone

There are two part numbers shown against the bolt for the alternator bracket (possible top and bottom?)
