I quite like the Four in that colour. Like the soft focus Hollywood effect :)

Vaseline on the lense?? oo-er 8)

New valve on the way from Martin so we shall see how she runs afterward. Now only the sillystrut, lack of undertrays, new belts, full service, interior deep clean, to do  No such thing as a cheap 'Four, I know.

It was, aye. Should have walked away as certain things weren't right, but nevermind. Hopefully I can turn the car into a good 'un.

I liked the look of it and was watching it myself.
Its "just" a matter of cost lol as to whether a punt turns out to be a bargain or a folly
good luck

So a fun morning 'working from home'!

First off a nice easy job - new dizzy cap & rotor arm. Dead easy, old cap wasn't 'bad' but rotor arm looking very second-hand.

Next, try and pull out the old PCV - top bodging!

It's gone, but is it inside the motor or outside the motor?

Image

Inside! :( Oh well needed to do the cam cover gaskets anyway. New stuff on the way from TCB - PCV grommet (disintegrated), catch can 90 degree, cam cover gaskets, and of course the obligatory bonnet vent replacement.

Any 'safe' way to get rid of all the cam cover gunk that's gone all over the injectors etc? Or more trouble than it's worth?

Taking the cover itself to a mechanic friend so one of his apprentice guys can run it through the parts washer for me to get rid of all the swarf from the dead PCV (which has a baffle plate behind it).

Cheers, was attracted to the colour as it suits the '205. I figure about £1k to turn it into a decent car, not including my time of course - but I get a kick out of fixing things up. Prices seem to be on the up for a sorted car, so hopefully I won't lose out too much. Who's to say the £4k+ cars don't need stuff doing to them anyway. Main thing with this is I couldn't find any rust whatsoever.

Oh I found a plate on the turbo for the hybrid but forgot to get a photo, will upload it for a full ID job.

Ran out of time to get to the mechanic so will probably just use a couple of litres of diesel in a bucket unless anyone has any better ideas.

Cheers,
Jon

Prices seem to be on the up, especially for 185s. The only cheap ones now seem to be fit for breaking body wise.

If there's no rust you have a bargain.

Well a bit of progress while I waited for some parts to arrive to put the top end back together.

Using my tame garage's parts washer.
Image

Masking off, play-doh a great labour-saving device cleaning out and re-tapping various holes. Oddly no finished pics but looks like a black cam cover!
Image

Old rad brackets were dead so rad was moving about a lot.
Image

Bought some good condition 2nd hand items so rude not to 'back to black' them.
Image

Fitted, have bought a shiny ally rad, new hoses, 'stat etc but will save that until it's running again.
Image

Turbo is an S148 which is nice, and genuinely looks virtually brand new.
Image

Pulled out a load of crappy aftermarket stereo wiring and removed the seats for deep cleaning.
Image

New filter element for the HKS and de-gunked the intake hoses - catch can to be fitted.
Image

Rear window tint removed - you could barely see out of it! No 'after' pic yet but, trust me, it's a lot better. Need to stick a light meter on the door windows to ensure they are legal.
Image

Some other stuff but no photo's like new plugs (went for Brisk this time out), and the stereo re-wired. Amazingly all the speakers and power antenna work!

Cheers,
Jon

Forgot that I'll need some RTV for the 6 'corners' of the semi-circular sections (2 x camshafts, 1 x dizzy) - will have to pick some up before re-fitting commences on Wednesday.

Managed to get today on the car, all re-assembled and running absolutely sweet as a nut :!: Ran the idle procedure and no blips whatsoever so I think we're sorted. The gen7 190 is potentially going tomorrow so we need the gt4 to be running properly! Will post some pics when I get a moment - nothing very exciting I know, but nice 'I did that!' stuff.

Cheers,
Jon
