What's currently recommended for the GT-four?

I believe the original fill was as follows:

Category: Gear Oil.
Product Name: TOYOTA GEAR OIL SUPER GL-5 75W-90.
Part No: 08885-02106
API: GL-5
SAE: 75W-90
Type: mineral

As I understand it, it was designed in a time before EP (Extreme Pressure) lubricants were required.

The Toyota repair manual merely states a GL-5 75w-90. Pretty much all GL-5 now available is semi/fully synthetic and EP.
Does anyone know the modern equivalent of a 1995 spec GL-5 oil?

I have read about people having shifting/synchro issues when using modern fully synthetic lubricants, some using ATF, some mixing in LSD additives & claiming it helps, some using GL-1 mineral (good for synchros, bad for gears?) it's all a bit confusing really.

Other considerations - Does anyone know what the synchros are made of? If they are a yellow metal (brass/copper) I believe some oils can cause corrosion.

My opinion is that most of the problems are caused by poor use of the gearbox and infrequent oil changes.

I have been using Millers CRX 75W90 NT in my gearbox for over 100k miles. The gearbox still performs well with over 150k miles on the clock.
