So all my superstrut woes are cured so I can finally feel what the car is doing....which is mainly bouncing, a lot! So new shocks time.

Camskill do the KYB 33's for £241.95 which is pretty reasonable, but it starts to add up when you add new dust cover, upper spring pan, lower pan rubber, bump stop, dust seal, and probably new top mounts as it seems silly not to. Any other options I should consider?

My driving is mostly bumpy B road stuff so I'm steering clear of coilovers.

Alternatively if anyone has a known-good standard pair of built front struts for sale, I'd be very interested.

Cheers,
Jon

This source might be worth a punt for top mounts:

Only trd's back in the day, I know things have moved on since then. However I can't see past the comfort and longevity of standard (well, kyb) stuff. Would like a set of kyb specials but they are expensive to import.

Would be good to hear your progress on this. Any chance of a full parts list too? The shocks have gone at the rear on mine so I am adding them to the never ending list of new parts. I am looking at kybs too, but have only really been on TCB website for prices at the moment.

The TRD coilovers had a reputation for being extremely hard, I know at least 1 person who removed them as they weren't suitable for our roads. I have used the TRD4-way conventional setup on my car and now using the TEIN coilover setup, both I think are fine for UK roads, although clearly they are stiffer than standard.

Thanks Sirius, I also had the TRD 4ways a long way back and agree they were a nice compromise. For me wrt coilovers its not just the ride but the overall increase in nvh you get from solid top mounts too.

Have considered the bilstein inserts Paul the polish chap has recommended but I think the price of an entirely new kyb strut just about swings it. Will post up my final shopping list, just doing a few other jobs first like a much needed oil change.

Cheers,
Jon

I don't think KYB make the Super Special 4-point adjustable shocks any more :( Had a good look on line and couldn't see them anywhere, even in Japan. I have them on my JDM ST205 with TRD springs and they are good for fast road driving. The ideal solution will be refurbed SuperStruts with Bilstein inserts. We had a chat with Bilstein at the Autosport Engineering show and this is possible. Watch this space!

Loads of the KYB SS/4-way stuff on Yahoo Japan, old stock I guess.

Paul/?Pawel the Polish chap already does Bilstein inserts for the stock superstruts, but I'm unsure what model of insert they are.

Cheers,
Jon

He says they are a B6 insert, if that helps.

Interested to hear how inserts are fitted.
As you may or may not know the tube that houses the shocks are not round all the way down.
Maybe the tubes get 'balled' to make round again to accept an insert?
Or a similar insert idea as stock?

No idea Steve and I had forgotten about the tube shape. Apparently it's a quick job to change the inserts (assuming you have the original type with removable insert, I believe the aftermarket KYB's are sealed?), no mention of any modifications to the shock body.
