Thought i would ask here as this is where the 3sgte engine experts are.

My caldina used to respond a lot better than it is now, and after driving my forster S turbo (223BHP) My caldina feels slow and heavy.

Its almost liek I am carrying a lot more weigh all of a sudden.

I checked for vac leaks as its a bit like turbo lag but vac hoses are fine.

I have noticed a bit of a chirp from the turbo sometimes especially at low speeds when i am asking a lot of it.

car idles fine, doesn't heat up drastically quick and brakes rub slightly but not binding like some toyota brakes. I have another turbo on my GT4 and an exhaust that will allow it to be fitted to the caldina but its a lot of work to swap if it might not be the turbo at fault.

any help or sugestions greatly apriciated

I have checked for boost leaks, but might have another look. its hard to pin point on a caldina as you don't have a factory boost gauge. Its like driving blind sometimes.

will check all the pipes again. and hopefully thats the culprit

if i can't find the leak I might just do that and duct tape it to the bonnet for a few days

I would definitely fit a boost gauge so you can see what is going on.

Is the timing and servicing all as it should be?

Recently been fully serviced. This hasn't happened suddenly

Gonna get a cheap eBay boost gauge and see what's going on

What year is the ST215?
Up to mid 1999, there were issues with the manifold flange warping on the drivers side, causing an exhaust leak.
The fix is to have the manifold planed then fitted with new gasket and re-torqued, or replace with 1999+ manifold and installing an extra stud on the head.

I have never heard of that issue before but my car is a 1998 so it might be why i can't find the boost leak anywhere else. I am guessing the above would explain why it gets worse the longer i drive??

While you're digging about looking for leaks whip the intercooler off and clean it out with a bit of petrol. The symptoms could point to heat soak

I presume you've checked error codes ?

A few other possibles i can think of:

Ignition timing retarded. - This makes things run hotter, especially the exhaust and turbo.
Cam timing out. Likely to change suddenly as it jumps a tooth rather than a gradual change.
Compression loss for whatever reason. Usually idle is a bit rough.
Standard bleed valve getting gummed up reducing bleed air & thus boost.
Weak spring / loose actuator on turbo.

Lots of GTT's in NZ, so the issue/solution has come up on the local toyota forums previously.

problem was finally traced to a non responding o2 sensor. this was making the car overfuel and bog down.

i couldn't find any leaks anywhere and exhaust manifold was also free from leaks (warm and cold) luckily these use OBDii and are easy to read
