After changing my clutch slave cylinder (Clutch now doesn't squeak and is now super smooth now I changed the fluid) i noticed my passenger side inner C.V boot is now split. It must be recent as I only changed the gearbox oil a couple of months back. I would rather not drain the fluid as I just refilled the gearbox with motul gear 300. What I plan to do is split the outer C.V off then slide the boot over the drive shaft onto the inner C.V. Anyone tried this method?

Also do the outer C.V's require just a tap with a hammer or are they held on with circlips?

Can the inner boots still be bought genuine or does it require a pattern part?

No...

Sprung clips - the outers often need a hefty whack to remove it from the driveshaft... not sure about the inners as not replaced one yet, but would suspect these are "attached" to the driveshaft in the same manner as the outers...

Will be interested to hear your findings :)

I change the drive wheels and never merge oil from a transmission.
You just need to do it one by one. Initially, the left side, then right side.
Lift the machine with the left side of the jack and change the drive shaft.
The oil is not running out of the transmission because there angle.
I always do.

As said above jack the car high to one side and pull the drive shaft - no oil will come out due to angle. ive done it successfully before

Cheers will do it that way. Is it worth getting a oil seal for the gearbox as well or should I be okay?

As above, jack the side up high enough and the oil won't come out.

If it's a 185, you can undo the bolts on the inner CV and it comes apart - but either be very careful not to let the CV itself come undone or make sure you know how to put it back together if it does.

I've had some outer CV's come apart with a gentle pull, others I've hit hard with a very large hammer and then given up & used stretchy boots. Never tried splitting an inner CV on a 205.
