Hello all,

Suspension on right side has started knocking loudly at low speeds, regular beat to it - every other second. Seems to disappear/reduce at higher speeds. Car handles fine, no visual issue from initial inspection. I had the tracking done and it was knocking on the way to the garage, couldn't see any problems whilst it was on the ramp, wheels aligned correctly now. Just completed a 300 mile round trip with seemingly no issue, but the knocking does concern me. Wont be driving it around much until issue can be identified.

uprated crush tubes (aluminium)
all SSS recently checked for wear, painted,
banana arm polybushed,
SSS reassembled and put back correctly by GT-Four specialist.
reconditioned Coilovers (cusco)
Brakes reconditioned with new pads/discs

Any guesses? Thanks

Absolutely sure about the fig. 8 and lower arm being ok? I had same symptoms, and it took a bit of time and messing around to see the unwanted movement, but it was there.

If it is regular that would suggest something rotational to me, driveshaft, propshaft, pads, diff, gearbox.

Pop down to the shop and have Barry put it on the ramp quickly, hopefully will be a quick fix.

Sounds like it is rotational to me too. Exploratory work as described above required to pin down the source....:D

Worryingly my wheel nuts were looser than a back ally hooker, so we tightened those up. Didn't hear anything much on the return journey, so that may have been the issue. Will wait and see... Bit concerned the guy that did the tracking didn't check them. Thanks for the advice.

I too have been guilty of forgetting to tighten wheel nuts  (as Mike will confirm!) Didn't realise what the problem was until we were almost at Le Mans by which stage a couple of wheel studs had snapped :(

Lucky you caught it when you did. Could that wreck the threads on the studs?

Yep it can damage the threads - if it gets worse it can even break the studs themselves - then the wheel falls off

Luckily when it happened to Don (I was passenger) we noticed it early enough that there were still some studs left to hold the wheel on.

With alloy wheels most of the damage will be to the wheel.
Steel wheels tend to cut into the studs at the back like a lathe.
