Hi. I'm doing a few jobs on the engine this week, and I'm really hoping to fix an annoying oil leak thats been around for too long. I located the rough point of origin, which seems to be at or above the distributor. Has anyone else dealt with this one? I believe theres an "o" ring seal which can be replaced. The rocker cover seems sound enough, as it was done fairly recently.

yes, there is a rubber Oring which can leak. Unplug 4 HT leads and king lead to the dizzy. Remove 2x 14mm bolts on the dizzy bracket and slide whole unit out. (probably easier to remove the airbox first..)
when removed, keep rough position of spindle to aid reassemble but don't worry too much, it cant go back in upside down as the keying interface to the cam shaft is slightly off centre anyway so can only go back on in one position.

you can see the rubber oring in the above photo on the non spinning part of the shaft/ spindle (NOTE: back cover of distributor is not shown)

Toyota main dealer will sell you one. (the rubber Oring that is..)

Spot on, thanks mate. I was considering just leaving it (again), but I've removed the cap etc already so I'd be daft not to just get the part and get it done.

Also, if there is no resistance when sliding the dizzy out from the side of the head, then the O-ring must worn. With new oring installed, it might need a tap to get the oring back in the hole of the head, then a little giggle to get it to align onto the cam shaft before dizzy unit can be mated up flush to the side of the head.

Check there is no oil inside of the distributor or leaking out the weep holes.
