Hello All,

After years of behaving itself my M Reg ST205 GT4 Jap Import has decided to play up

A couple of days ago (the snowiest of days of course) my electric window failed at the same time my dashboard lights and rear lights went out. I'm guessing this is some sort of relay/fuse issues? My headlights work but there's a buzzing coming from the relays in the drivers footwell. The brake lights and rear window defogger work fine.

Before I head out to an auto electricians I thought I'd post here and see if anyone had experienced the same? The car is driveable but not in the dark as the rear lights aren't working.

Many thanks for reading!

Phil

You will need the circuits at the end of this to trace things through.

My guess is tha the windows were frozen solid and drew excessive current, blowing a fuse or rusty / questionable earth point.

p333 shows the power window circuit. with motor current earthing back to 'Instrument panel brace LHS' . This could possibly be RHS on a RHD car. It also shows motor current through a 30A 'power' fuse and relay driven through the gauge fuse (drives the gauges not the lighting)

The dash and tail lights are both on the tail light fuse.
P325 shows the tail light circuit. The control relays Earth to RHS kick panel so presumably a different Earth to the windows.
p323 shows the dash illumination. This also earths to 'Instument panel brace LHS' same as the windows.

Thanks Nibbles for the quick and detailed reply, I'll have a look into this and let you know how I get on. The window failed as I was putting it up, "luckily" it failed near the top so just the one bit of duct tape needed to keep the rain and snow out.
