Hi guys.

I got a Toyota Celica GT 4, 93 mod with ST185 3s-GTE engine.

Just had my ST185 3S-GTE engine out (changed oil and top gasket/bolts due to oil leak). We got everything back in, but are missing 1 cable that we got no idea where is going. The engine is running fine on idle, but if you push the throttle hard it chokes(air related problem, too much gasolin). The cable is located close to the intake, and is possibly going in somewhere in that area. Any tips would be most helpful, im adding some pics(sorry for the poor quality, my S5 is gettin a bit old). And yes, there are vacuum cables missing in the pictures, we had to move something to get more space =).

There's 2 different cars as you might notice, but they both got the same cable unplugged.

From it's location I would guess it goes to the speed sensor on the gearbox if it's from the body loom, or to one of the valves under the inlet manifold if it's on the engine loom.

Re. the poor running, there are a number of things that can cause this sort of thing. The most common is a significant leak in the intake - anywhere from the back of the air flow meter (mounted on the air filter box) to the engine. In view of the engine removal, it's probably a pipe left off or connected to the wrong place. Usually leaks affect idle, in this case I would check that the small pipe to the dump valve is plumbed to the inlet manifold, if this is missing the dump valve could be opening on boost.

Another common one is a problem with the fuel pump relay dropping out power to the fuel pump when it switches to full speed. You can check for this by measuring the voltage between FP and E1 in the diagnostic connector.

It's also worth checking ecu error codes to see if you've forgotten to plug in something important such as air flow meter. No special tools needed, follow the lnk below.

p.s.

It's often helpful with diagnosis to know a bit of history.

Was it running ok before engine removal ?
What was done while out ? cam belt (could be cam timing out) ? Distributer (ignition timing out) etc. etc.
