JP - could you bring along the alternator for me to try - it does seem that this is the source of the clicking..

FWIW I had a clicking sound from the area of the alternator. It turned out to be a knackered bearing on the aircon clutch due to me running the drive belt too tight ...doh

Evening all.. hows the templates going?

Mutleys going suprisingly well at the moment, which not only fills me full of joy, but makes me keen on fitting the SARD injectors and the FPR.

Anyone care to give me some directions on how to fit the injectors, i have new O rings and insulators fresh from Mr T...

Any help as ever will be greatfully received

Oh i forgot to give you my msn - its jolly_batey@hotmail.co.uk

Can help a bit...just hope my memory is ok...

Take it these are the SARD 63517 800cc injectors?

Have found a few of these injectors seem to "stick". By that I mean they don't work/fire when installed in the car and hey presto the car won't start!

My "theory" is that when they are made and subsequently tested a preserving fluid is run through the injector. After "some" time this fluid seems to want to keep hold of the needle and not let it lift.

I have found that BRIEFLY applying 12V direct to the injector will be enough for the injector to fire and "break" this apparent stiction...problem solved.

So, first fire the injectors on the bench - you should hear them "click".

Car should be cold and have been left for a "while". Disconnect battery. Lift up or better still remove the intercooler. Remove the throttle body. Cover/blank off the manifold inlet and turbo outlet.

Remove the engine loom from the alternator and around back to the point where the loom enters the inlet manifold area. Unclip from all the injectors - you might want to mark the injector plugs as these all have the same keyway - save any possible confusion later. Note that all the other plugs are keyed and it's "almost" impossible to get the wrong plug onto the wrong connector :)

Crack open the supply line to the rail from the top of the fuel filter - watch for fuel exiting the union and thus bleeding off any pressure - if the car has been left for a while then the pressure would have dissipated anyhow...

Remove pipe from fuel filter, unclip and remove rail return pipe - cover all ends to prvent dirty ingress.

Undo 3 bolts that secure rail to head and "simply" lift out rail. Note that under the rail is a crappy arrangement of a metal and also a plastic spacer under each bolt - don't loose them and not their orientation

With the rail on the bench, undo top cover 4? bolts which exposes the tops of the injectors.Note that there is a seal on the top of the injector and also on the bottom of the rail to seal the rail against the head - you may find that the rail to head seals are still in the head...

Simply and carefully lever out the injectors, (they may be a bit stiff".

Picture of the top of the rail
Image

Lubricate with some fresh fuel the new injector O rings and push into place in the rail - not that the injectors need to be square in the rail i.e. connector at 90 degrees to the rail. If you look at the bottom of the injector there are 2 holes which point at the inlet valves so they should be aligned correctly

Picture of "holes". The blue one is a SARD 800 and the red injector is a stock 205 injector - 540

Scoff the rail back into place making sure the seals are in place between the rail and the head and those damn metal and plastic spacers are also in place.

Do the rail up, refit the loom and put the rest back, adjust the ECU for the larger injectors and start it up.

Hope that helps?

Measured up and done the digi pics. First free weekend in a while coming up Rob so my plan is to offer up the undertray and suss out the mounting plus any 'enhancements' to the basic design.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers
