Well what can i say, climbed in the four this morning, got a little more than i expected.

I know we had a fair amount of rain last night, but this just sucks.

Drivers side front and rear carpets swimming in water well over the carpet, at least 2 inches worth

Passengers side lot less, but still soaked, nothing to rear passengers side.

Door shuts seals seam ok, no sunroof, so why so much water, and where did it come from..

It now stinks like a dogs kennel.

Any idea's

Thanks

#clear some stuff out of your double garage! ;)

#remove the carpets, drill some holes in th floor plan and save some weight.

#get a puppy.

Edit: #sun roof or blocked gutters?

Don't think the mrs would be too happy if I cleaned the garage out at home, only to park the four inside.

Mind you if this continues, then it could be on the cards..

Sounds to me like a bulkhead bung or hole is the cause Jon. Had this on my '98 Mondeo.
It'll be dripping into the footwells and pooling.
I'd get the seats and carpets out and shampoo the carpet.
You might be able to spot the leak point by pulling out the carpet from the footwell areas.
Then take a spong e to the floorpan and soak it up.
Not nice.
Good luck mate.

What about the doorcard weathershield/plastic sheet that seals the doorcard from any water that gets down between the window seals. There is a .5 - 1mm gap between my window outer face and the sealing strip in some places on both ns and os of my 165; water definitely runs down this gap and would be in the car without the plastic sheet.

I made a post about this very subject on here, but it has gone. I think it might have been in a 'welcome' thread which get deleted after a number of weeks?

I received some very helpful advice and a great link from a fella on here, I forget the name  but he has got a soarer now instead of a 4. I am sure some of you know who I mean

Stripped the door, few damp patches.

Slight gap from door glass to outer rubber seal, slight adjustment, sorted that hopefully.

Checked bulkhead rubbers, wires, everything..

not to rusty, but every floor plan wet..

I have also removed my boot plastics and all carpets (except the one in the boot...this helps stop the shopping flying around) throughout, and removed all of the sound deadening as well. Painted the floor pan with anti rust paint and fitted aluminium foot plates. Lost a lot of weight, but gained a lot of noise. Nice noises though, it really feels like you are driving a machine when you can hear everything happen (rust dropping off, wheel bearing starting to go, the drip of oil when you park up etc)

Good luck with the water games, at least summer is coming along :?: to help dry the car out

Have you seen this weeks forecast?

Might try the weight loss thing myself....but like you I need to keep the boot for shopping purposes for when I take my old man shopping. How loud is it? I have a 2.5" full mongoose system so it's pretty noisy now. :?

BTW Jon. Have you checked the pedal area for leaks in from the bulkhead?

Steve

Is there any chance its the heater matrix? I know this causes all manner of problems with water if it fails.

Hope you get it sorted.

Steve, it's pretty loud

I have an aussie with a full 2.75" goose zorst, so I reckon we will have a similar level of noise. Tbh though, I don't notice the zorst really, more tyre and engine. I don't really notice these anymore either unless I listen out for them, excpet when I have driven a 'normal' car and then get into mine.

I can still easily hear the odd dashboard creak above the general noise, so it can't be that loud :?:

Thanks for all your input.

well its dry, bone dry.... :D

i think its the outer rubber to door glass, was a gap before, now no gap, no more water leaking in..

just a shame the carpets are still wet, going to be a will with no carpets installed.

drove to work, no wet feet, its a nightmare driving in welly boots.. :)

cheers..

Thats good to hear Jon. It must have been some gap to let that much water in though.
