Might be a bit far for some of you but we have a classic rally round the walls of our local city. We went last year and had a great time, you can walk freely round the unattended cars. I was amazed by the number of classic Bugatti's just sitting in a court yard with their bonnets up. These are million pound cars, they get thrashed round a circuit lined with stone walls then left unattended for people like me to poke round in.

Any one want to pop over for the weekend Limogues air port is about an hour and a half north, Bergerac is the same south and we are between Angouleme and Bergerac. We might be able to accommodate a few people but would need notification quick, I have offered other friends rooms but as far as I am concerned it's a first come (if any) first served basis.

More info here in French and English

I'm going to take a flyer and put my name down for it. Hopefully I'll persuade a few of the gang to join me :)

I'm assuming this is the date for this year -

les 14-15-16 septembre 201

Lovely part of the world this, I spent many a holiday in Riberac as friends had a couple of little cottages out there a few years back.

Looking at your description of location I wonder if you are in Riberac or surrounding villages yourself? Far too much Pineau though!

To drive it is fair distance and IIRC it was about 7-8 hours from Calais. I will have a 9 month old by then so that length of time in a car will rule it out. Unless I can get a long weekend pass??

Hi Chris. Yes the dates are 14-16th September. I shall book you a room.

We are indeed about 9 miles from Riberac in Aubeterre-sur-dronne, if you stayed in Riberac you must have visited Aubeterre. I went to the distillery in Roufiac yesterday and bought a bottle of the best Pineau and a bottle of VSOP Cognac, they are renowned for being one of the best producers and both bottles were only £22, bargain.

We are a long drive from Chalais, about 8-9 hours sounds about right. We're 6 hours from LeHavre and that's on the right side of France. There are cheap flights from London Stansted 13th to Bergerac and returning 17th for about £92 + booking fees so £100ish. I think you'd be pushed to find much to do there for more than a couple of days, Sunday being the best day.

I vowed never to bother driving again with flights being so cheap. Bergerac is the easiest to get to for us, Limogues is doable but a ball ache of a drive, Bordeaux is easier.

Ah yes, we often went to the river in Aubeterre to get our bellies out.

Never got as posh as a proper distilerry - local farmer brewing it was happy to sell us some he had made if we made frenchy sounding noises enough.

I got given a bottle of the Roufiac Pineau by the Mayors wife for doing a repair on her screen. I think it was a gift to the Mayor, he cam home as we were drinking another bottle of it. He didn't look too impressed lol. It's only €8 a bottle from the producers, a cheap bottle from the local supermarket costs more and is only good for cleaning your teeth, even Julie likes this one.

We are about 100 meters from the river, right on the crossroads with Route Dr Riberac and Route de Monmoreau. As you came from Riberac to the tee junction we are in the house facing you, big 3 story house.

Yes and no. Cupcakes has moved up to the top of the village by Leglise St Jaques (my spelling will probably be way off).

It's such a small world isn't it? We are quite friendly with Jane who runs Cupcakes, she has some of Julie's art work on display up there.

Sounds just like the film Chocolat (well worth a watch if you haven't seen it)

I have heard good reports about Angouleme. Need to convince Mike it would be a great trip to run in his new engine

I'm glad Lewis is thinking of coming along with this new French motoring law in the pipeline:

I'm not sure my car will be ready in time, we also have a trip to Scotland planned for October.

Sounds like a good event though. :)
