Post subject:  have seen a few ST205s that interest me

hi guys and girls :)

long time no type...i have been a little bored with the 165 for the past few months (and doing up my flat), and am thinking of buying a ST205 to run around in whilst i decide what to do with the 165. There are 4 that i am looking at...does anybody have any knowledge of the following cars, or even better already looked at them? I am thinking of coming to the north island next weekend to buy one of them. ANY advice appreciated: -

This looks nice but the paint on the bonnet seems dull in places. Would look great with some white alloys

I really like the look of this one...no mention of fig 8's though. Mileage is still quite low

I really like this one too, seems too good for the money though? What are those things either side of the rear windscreen near the top of the tailgate?

Seems like a nice tidy example; it's just that for the money it leaves me feeling a little underwhelmed...

I have asked for further details where necessary.

Thanks for any help

Karl

I think both 2 and 3 look especially mean...probably just down to the photography/lighting etc though :)

It's going to be fun picking 8)

No 4 looks like it might be a car that belongs to jon barnes? Out of the four (no pun) ,that would be the one i would look at.

Hi Homer :)

Thanks for the response...is Jon a dc member?

I know deep down that no 4 is the safest bet, it is clearly cherished and has been maintained meticulously.

It is just that it is 1k more than my 2 favourites and higher mileage...and they both have IMO nicer alloys. I know that if I bought 4 I would likely not have to spend a great deal on sorting the basics...but I would still spend loads on some 17's. I also know that sorting the basics on a 'bad un' will end up costing much more :?

It is no slur against the car, just me being swayed by first appearance; bodykits, alloys, slight drops etc. Sad but true

Anyway, enough ramble, thankws for the input, it is much appreciated :)

Jon is a oc member, he also has a very nice cs for sale  , i think don knows this guy well, his cars certainly seem to want for very little . Good luck with your search mate.

Ah...I have seen both of his car for sale on the oc. Though I am no longer a paid member I can see the 'for sale' section on the oc. I am also looking at really good condition rc's and cs's, I just wish I could see his oc thread detailing the rebuild of his red cs

His 205 is looking better each time (once an hour at the moment lol) I look at all of the adverts/pictures etc

i seriously considered Jon Barnes WRC as a run about.

Completely stock Ltd Edn WRC maintained meticulously. should give 60,000 trouble / maintenance free miles.

As i understand, it looks like it still has the speed limiter in place and is reading in KM's. Peace of mind that the mileage hasn't been fiddled ....

keeping a WRC stock, and it will always be a desirable car.

...also Mr Barnes is an up an coming racing talent. if he hits the big time this season or next, then the fact that his name is on the log book should add to the value of the car come resale.

PM sent re CS restoration ;)

p.s another RC for sale...not too far away on the north island:

No 3 Looks the bargan of that lot subject to a proper once over by a knowing DC ST205 member. Its even got the sunroof... Sad to see em going so low tho... dosent hold out much hope for the rest of us when we sell. 48K seems really low even for Jap milage is there paperwork to support it ?

Hey Gary, much thanks for the pm...it is a beautiful car no doubt! I am glad that I have a week to think about it, I might even take longer. I simply want a reliable and fast run around with a bit of luxury (compared to my sled of a 165 anyway) thrown in; everything the 165 currently isn't  TBH the 165 is very reliable 8)

Thanks for the link to the other cs!

Cel1ca, I agree about number 3, definatley going to have a look at that one if it is still available fingers crossed

With regard the current favourite, number 3 silver one I have had an email back from the seller stating...

"Hi there. We bought the car with warranted miles so mileage is genuine. The amount of wear and tear and the way the car drives further confirm it's low mileage.
Will point out that the skirts are cracked on both sides (doesn't really
show up from distance or in pics). This should be repairable for around
£150-£200 or you could simply remove the trd kit. Bodyshop I use is fully
booked until last week of sept and I have 3 cars coming this week with
little space to store them. Hence the reduced price."

Also sent me loads of pictures; it all looks ok!

It is between this one and Jon Barns's 205 (number 4). Perhaps one will sell by Saturday and my mind will be made up (subject to passing inspection of course) :)

Again, thanks for all the input

Karl, I havent seen Jon's black ST205 but he certainly looked after his silver ST205 very well. He won the Formula Palmer Audi single seater championship last year on the smell of an oily rag. Even although his ST205 looks boring I'd probably go for it as all the expensive work has already been done and so I wouldn't worry about the mileage.

I'm keeping my own white ST205 stock as well. Good ones are hard to find nowadays particularly the non-sunroof models.

Kerplink!
