Hey guys, Has anyone else used Tescos 99ron super unleaded yet? I slung some in the beast before i drove to wales on monday and it got me there and back plus a couple of days driving (not boosting to much  ) on one full tank! which i thought was pretty good going seeing as one tank of opti-max would struggle to get me to santa pod and back...

Anyway, For any local guys near me (Kris, lucy, Markcl... oh and big matt!!) you can get the stuff in tesco north harbour.

Cheers, DAVE :D

Div - thanks for that, might give it a try :)

So you reckon that you got more mpg from this than "other" petrol?

At the risk of off topic posting, I found Esso SUL gave me better MPG in my Starlet Turbo than Optimax did. This was back to back testing, Optimax one way, Esso the other.

Havent got the Tesco stuff up here yet. Could we get someone with a PFC or similar to give their car a good thrashing on Optimax then another week do the same thrashing on Tesco fuel and give us the results of the max. knock readings.

I do almost exactly the same mileage every week.

If I use Optimax I struggle to get a full week out of a tank.
If i use Sainsburys Super unleaded I get a full week plus a few bonus trips out of a tank.

Due to traffic to/from work i don't get the opportunity to beast her, so this is a fairly good test.

I will try Tesco's 99 ron next week and report back ;) lol

On the motorway definately! I've just filled it up completely again so i'll let you know about the day to day consumption oh and it's "only!!!" 89.? pence.

As i said ive only really used it on the motorway so i havent really given it any stick...yet! So im not sure about any performance gains/losses. Will report back.

Yup, I've started using it now that the said North Harbour Tesco does it. Chichester also does it, so there's a few options down this way. Not had a really good blast yet but it feels smooth enough so presume it's doing it's job :)

i would have thought it the other way around seeing as Sainsbury fuel would be of a lesser quality......certainly I know that Optimax was better for my JDM Prelude 2.2 vtec......

Funny I would have thought the same, but my 165 used to do better MPG on super unleaded than optimax too . . .

If i know i am going to be giving it large, I will use optimax, however for day to day miss Daisy driving, super unleaded is fine :)

I filled up yesterday on Sainsbury Super UL as I found myself next to their filling station when dragged out shopping.

I'll be doing my usual commuting mileage over the next week or so and see what MPG it returns.

The problem will be getting a direct comparison, as my last full tank of Optimax gave 22.6mpg, but after fitting the downpipe and having my blowing flexipipe replaced with a 3in unit I'd expect slightly better ecconomy.

I only got 20.16mpg over the 3/4 tank according to the fill yesterday, but there was a lot of on boost driving which I hadnt been doing for a while in that 3/4 tank and a lot of idling to clear the windscreen every morning.

I guess we'll just see what we see.

I too have been using the Tesco stuff, fill up at Newbury Tesco. Noticed a wee increase in bang, but haven't really noticed a change in the MPG.

If you do choose to fill up there be prepared for a wait, there always seems to be a massive queue to get in there!! :x

its hard to give det readings from diff fuels cuz air temps vary so much. ive got an apexi pfc and not seen any higher det readings using tesco higher ron fuel.

I must admit that I have had a couple of tanks of the Tesco 99RON and not noticed any difference over the Optimax that I normally run.
