I am having a similar issue since these teins are supposedly circuit spec. At 1.9" (48mm) lower than stock I only had .5-1" (14-25mm). of travel before bump stop. I spent a lot of time one the phone with them, and they seem quite helpful considering I have a suspension that has been discontinued for a decade. They say they will be more functional at 1.3" which did prove to be a huge improvement.
I had looked at BC, AMR, and Fortune coilovers. All of them use a threaded lower perch and separate spindle mount to change heigh via body and not load the springs. The fortune can get costly as they offer up to a 3 way adjustable option, external cartridge, etc.. but they also give you dynos for everything. AMR seems to have a good product but a hit or mis reputation. BC seems to have a good rep, but you have to spend some time talking to them to get what you want and there is no guarantee they will shock dyno the way you were promised. I have ready they dyno well, but they may not be equal left to right, and you might need to get them dyno'd to know the click difference to keep them even. Supposedly The RAM type is based off an old Ohlins design. I did not know Ohlins make anything for the gtfour. I assume its expensive though.
After all my research I came to wanting to use Koni 8611-1259 RACE damper. I have a friend that makes housings for the 8611-1257 damper but they are not digressive like the 59. The issue with the 59 is the setup is about 5mm taller than stock. So if I was to do the extending of the strut tops it would work for when these are in my budget. For their quality, their price is quite fair. About 300 per insert. Some claim you can find them cheaper. I can get the housings for 105 each, and I can even order the threaded lower sections from BC, I just need a thread to place on the body. I may be able to get those from them as well. One nice thing about them is they are two way and seem to do well.
Some research was found on the lowering of the 185. It seems that 1.9" is the lowest you can go before the geometry changes. There was some heavy data taken on a couple of race cars. One being an autox car, and another a track fwd car. The front can be resolved with a flipped tie rod and extended ball joint. I have the flip kit for the tie rod. I need to do a few tweak to it. I also have part numbers for a mono ball pin and bearing that would be a good ball joint option, but I need to get a bracket made. I have held off on that because I need to get lower control arms made or modified that add more caster.
We have been trying to get measurements of LCA from other cars to see if something can be adapted. We think a ft86 lca can be modified. There is an aluminum lca that subaru uses I was curious about. We are also talking about using a lexus front spindle that is all aluminum and fair priced. About 120usd each. I am content with using the stock LCA if I could at least get the mounting points moved forward. I think a new brackets might be able to be made that offsets it but that might cost more to machine than to just do some cutting and welding on the stock LCA.
Right now I am trying to sort out a parts list, then figure out compatibility between all the items, so it is a one time purchase and machine.

I talked to a fabricator, and I have talked to some who use the tte front suspension. The chassis builder can do what I want, but it is going to cost around $800usd to do right. I have someone interested in my teins, so it would cost less for me to get a coilover built to my needs.
I was also planning on having a lower control arm made for the front to increase caster so I can center the wheel in the wheel well and be rid of rubbing with my larger tires. I am waiting to hear back from wever on cost so I can decide what I am going to do.

Posted another episode about planning this years mods.
Right now I am between Fortune Auto and Feal coilovers, while I am leaning towards Feal.

A new video is up. This one is mostly just taking some weights of a handful of parts including comparing two batteries.

Here is the video and blog post for bump steer readings. The blog has the data from the video, as well as lots of links for research. I had to reshoot several times but I tried to keep as much of it a concise as possible. Hopefully I didn't botch up my explanations. Much of the video covers setting up the car to measure. I'll be taking more readings with my new setup so I can near zero the bump.

Just caught up with your progress - nice work :)

Those new dampers look good - interested to hear how they perform.

Thanks. I look forward to driving the car again. I am tired of the car being on jack stands, so I am actually only going to do small projects for the next year or so to avoid any major down time.
I have some new spindles at a machinist being reamed for my flip kit. Other than that I am just waiting for my new front control arms and hardware for bolting the rear end back in. The next couple days I am under the car giving it the por15 treatment so I can enjoy it for years to come. For such an old chassis almost zero rust. Just had a couple spots where the old subframe washers rusted. Speaking of which, I need to track down a couple new subframe washers.

So a small update. I had been working on my garage and decided since the car was in a good state to replace the connector that broke off from the water temp sensor. After I finished I started the car and it barely runs now. It gives me a code 22. So now I get to spend important mod time figuring this bs out. So much for driving this summer. I hope I can get through it quickly.

To sort of decompress I made a storage setup for my carbon fiber hood so I can swap between the two as I please and have a nice wall art.

Looks great - I wonder if using some black pipe insulation that is pre-cut would look cleaner for the 'art' side. :)

That would work too. I might add some to the side wood as well for extra barrier. I forgot about that stuff which is why I used the pool noodle. I got the car running btw. Efi coolant sensor plug wire snapped. Had an extra from my 205 harness and it runs again. Now time for an alignment and go tear up some roads.
