Just thought I'd post up a few pics of a Leigh Forrest's giant killing Toyota Celica TA22 which has been run for many years in Australian improved production class racing. This won its class in last years Bathurst 12 hours race at Mt. Panorama, New South Wales and came second this weekend in the same event up against a 6 litre Holden Monaro. It's the only turbocharged car in the field and is rated as equivalent to 3400cc under the regulations.

It has proved very difficult to find out any information on the engine or chassis. As you can see from the pics it runs significant negative camber on the front wheels presumably to help turn-in. Normally running this amount of camber you'd expect the front tyres to wear rapidly. In an endurance race that would be a big problem as it would mean frequent stops for new rubber so he must have solved it somehow.

Going by the cam cover the engine is a Gen 2 3SG. It's hard to say if its a 3S-GTE or a turbo'd 3S-GE. Either way, I still think it's a significant achievement to get a turbo 3SG to survive in such a competitive race for 12 hours. I believe it retains a wet sump which may be a Moroso type 'wing' sump to minimise oil surge.

If I can get my engine to perform like this I'll be well pleased!
