Hi All,

So I had some annual leave to use up and decided that I would take a little road trip to really stretch the legs of the GT-Four.

Started here:

Several hours later and a brief stop for lunch and obligatory border photo:

Scotland treated me to some fine weather, the drive along the A9 through the Cairngorms and then up the coast was epic:

Yet more hours later - final destination:

I then took a short detour to Duncansby Head which is technically the furthest point by road from Lands End:

Furthest car on the mainland!

I was really pleased with the performance of the car, the empty Scotland roads allowed me to exploit the power available and really give the TEIN suspension a workout. The roads were heavily salted and the car got totally covered but given the temperatures and the snow/ice I was glad for the gritting on the twisty bits. Quite a bit of the journey was in the dark, projector headlights worth every penny, very glad I splashed out on them.

I'd always wanted to do this drive, however not having spent much time in Scotland before it has made me realise that there is some fantastic roads and scenery, with the added bonus of being sparsely populated and there being little traffic. I will definitely be returning :D

Sounds like a good road trip, did you work out average MPG Mike?

I did as it happens - over the ~1850 miles it has averaged 26mpg. Not too bad considering that the car is running 800cc injectors and a walboro pump.

A small amount but the roads were a little icy in places and not knowing them too well I was taking it fairly easy, the scenery is very distracting as well which keeps the velocity in check :)

Blast, the cat's out of the bag now. We were trying to keep this to ourselves  Seriously tho, looks like great weather and stunning snow-covered hills. More like Rene's Arctic Circle road trip!

Great trip Mike! Only ever done it on a bike but would love to give it a go in the four.

Did you do it in a single day or did you stop overnight somewhere?

Having driven from Farnborough on the first day to get to Lands End I spent the first night near Weston Super Mare, the following day I drove from there to Inverness where I stopped again. The following day I started very early and did the last 120 miles or so to John o'Groats arriving at dawn. I had a bacon roll in a cafe and took some pictures before heading for home. I left JOG at about 10:40 in the morning, I was booked to stay in Preston on the way back but I decided to press on and made it all the way home that night getting home at about 23:20 - a long drive in a day. :)

I must confess I had to google that!

Looks like an awesome circuit. Would be a fabulous trip in September when the heather's out :D

I googled it, got distracted and then started getting misty eyed about a NR500 (Honda race bike with oval section pistons and 8 valves per cylinder!).

That route looks like it would suit the GT-Four just nicely, better have AA cover though!
