So I am hoping to be able to drive my GT4 soon and looking at insurance.

The car will be a 2nd vehicle and on a limited mileage policy (say 3000 ish per annum). It is an import and modified moderately extensively (or is planned to be within the course of the insurance period) - barkes, suspension, ECU, turbo intercooler etc.... Unfortunately with the extended off the road period I now only have my main car NCD and the second set of NCD I had built up will have lapsed.

Who are the likely candidiates for insurance nowadays?
Adrian Flux / Dorset / Sky / Footman James?

I am wondering if classic car insurance is a possibility as the car will be ceberating its 24th birthday on 31st Dec!

Classic is certainly an option but last time I tried Footman and (iirc) REIS wouldn't go for classic on a heavily modified car :(

Personally I avoid Sky after they mis-sold me an agreed value policy but others seem to do OK

I think Chris was getting a good low mile rate with Competition Car Insurance but I don't recall what the qualification criteria were. You might have to sign up for an occasional autotest.....

I will try both routes.

I may need to limit the mods for the first year to gain a second set of NCD.

On the basic info I provided to Footman they will quote me but had to refer it due to mods. £212 INC IPT limited to 3K miles.

I got a good deal with Chris Knott, gave a better deal than Adrian Flux - Sky I never bother with customer service any time I call to get quotes is pretty poor.

I'm with adrian flux on 5000 miles social only, 375 for a standard st205 1 years no claims. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by flux, I was after some bartering. As above all the other companies listed are equally reputable.

I had trouble insuring the Elise when I but it back in the road last year to sell it. AON/FJ who had previously insured it declined and I ended up with Competition Car Insurance underwritten by Aviva arranged through Towergate Insurance. This included five track days from a list of approved track day operators. My stock GT-Four is still covered under an FJ Classic policy with limited mileage. They didn't want to know about the Patrol so Sainsbury's was the best deal.

I'm with needtoinsure at a very competitive £250 for BOTH my 4s!!!. 2500 miles per annum each and wheels, exhaust, boost control declared on both. Because it is classic insurance there is no NCD involved.
Maybe give them a try?

If you plan to do some msa competition then reis are sensibleand will give full ncd at the outset.

Alternatively, Peter James for classic car - jingo had ezzy plus road car on a single policy and it was very cheap.

Also try greenlight who are on celica club. They have some very good feedback.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Will look into a few more options.

The classic car scheme and MSA appeals although I am not sure an RC is the vehicle to be doing auto solos in, a damaged front bumper or bonnet (specific to RC/CS) and finding replacements is near on impossible now.

I may find that the intended level of mods is the main issue and may rule out classic car insurance. I really need to contact one of the insurers to idnetify teh limitation of mods before they will no longer insure it under CC policy. So far they have been fine with ECU, turbo, intercooler, suspension & brake mods with upto a 75% power increase but most seem to work on the number of mods rather than the overall impact.
