I have an interview this week, first one in 2 years, so I'm a little uneasy, but feeling fairly confident. The logistics of getting to the interview are not helped by the fact that my GF and I are sharing the ST205 at the moment as Barry at South Coast Workshop is trying to save our Yaris from the breakers yard (mental note: must buy one reliable car at some point).

Anyway any general tips?

I'm going for a Part 2 Architects Assistant/Technician role, (which may sound similar to being Santa's little helper, but it does require 2 degrees)

I have printed my portfolio and need to dig out my suit, but I'm sure there are plenty of white collar professionals that may have some good tips.....I'm all ears.

I have been sitting on lots of interview panels as the lead lately, we have recruited around 12 people into the team that I manage.

Advice that I can offer:-

Make sure you know the job description - its amazing how many people show up not having a clue.
Research the business who is offering the job, know their work and their clients.
Wear a suit and tie, black shoes.
Be polite.
Have some questions prepped for them - remember you should be checking that this job is suitable for you as well. I find an approach of I'm interviewing them a bit really helps to take the pressure off.
Don't bulls&*t - they will know.

Lastly for now and this should go without saying - be on time!

People who we have interviewed recently who have not got a role include:

Those who didn't show up and didn't tell us they were cancelling
People not smart - who doesn't wear a tie/jacket to a professional interview
People who had no idea what the role is about
People who had no idea what our business does

You get the picture!

Good Luck :)

All good advice above.

I would just add that some people I've interviewed have blown it by going off topic and almost having a mini rant about stuff that has nothing to do with the job. Very off-putting!

In my book enthusiasm counts for almost 50% of any job so don't worry if you don't know the answers to all the questions. If you don't know but have the enthusiasm to ask questions of colleagues or network on the interweb it's a big plus.

Good luck!

Sound advice, thanks, got another interview on Monday now too.

So its going to be a busy week or so+I also have interim presentation to give on Thursday, still have not managed to draw up floor plans for my University project building .... It's going to be a long week.

Found Suit, might need to buy a new shirt though. Will avoid rants.

Will very subtly test the water to see if they are a car person, If not will have to tread lightly, petrol heads are seen as the enemy in the architectural sphere...If I had a £ for every time the car-less city was mentioned by an architect as the nirvana to environmental sustainability, I would have a fully forged engine by now. ....woops just started ranting

That video had me in stitches at work

Well the interview in question went well, I am now awaiting a proposal letter and if it has all the right numbers on I will be very happy. I will also be able to keep the ST205 as a weekend car rather than DD, which will mean cheaper insurance and more money left over to finish it off.

Everything is related...
