I'm puzzled by your reference to two chassis codes? On JDM ST205's the number is stamped on the firewall e.g. ST20500001234 and on UK ST205's on the chassis plate e.g. JT164STL500004567 These are the numbers recognised by the Toyota EPC.
Diceman hit the nail on the head. I also can to that conclusion a few posts back. Sorry about the confusion with the 2 chassis numbers, I mean model number and vin number..
my model code is E-ST205 which is not the the same as ST205 (UK) so what probably happens is the MOT guy sees ST205 from a drop down menu and selects it which is not right..
Above is an example of a JAP import ST202
and if it is not listed in the anex of this document
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/346222/emissions_17th_edition.pdf(WHICH E-ST202 is NOT) then no cat test? (bottom of page 129)
Personally I have always thought that the above approach taken by many owners is clutching at straws. If it works - that's fine but if it doesn't just take your car elsewhere or fit the catalytic converter back on.
The above is largely a semantics argument in whether E-ST205 is the same as ST205 or not, in which case I would also point out that the DVSA document makes reference to 'Model
Codes' - nowhere on the chassis plate does it say - Model Code - it just says Model. Picky yes - but no more or less so than whether the presence of an 'E-' is relevant or not. Also given that the chassis numbers are consecutive and the document states starting from 0000001 which includes
all sixth generation GT-Fours I doubt your argument would fair well if tried legally.
Finally note that even Toyota UKs legal and compliance department have omitted the 'E-' when describing the model code of a JDM ST205.
Write to your MP if you really care.
