These facelift/TRD skirts are emerging as a real menace to the lower sills. I guess they are filling with road grime, trapping salty water in the winter and then the lower sill eventually ends up like that :(

Wow,
That is the worst I have seen a Sill for a very long time. IIRC SCW indicated that this was a JDM non-sunroof model?

I hope mine aren't like that!

Hole-y moley. I'm going to have nightmares about what could be lurking in mine now!
Does TRD stand for Total Rust Development???

I popped over to SCW whilst this was on the ramps, it's even worse in real life, luckily I think its been caught just in time, the charge cooler rad in this car looks like a melted mars bar too-front impact potentially. However it's good to see that it getting restored, rather than being broken.

Looks like it rotted from the outside as the inner structure looks reasonable.

I suspect the skirts were fitted for the same reason as my 205, it's clearly fallen off a jack at some point and bent the sill badly. There's no great lip at the point most people use a trolley jack so once lifted it slides out and the sill lands on the jack.

Up close it looks like that is exactly what happened. A lot of work had to be done to straighten that out and to reconstruct the vertical seam on the sill.

I'm pretty sure they were genuine. It's made me concerned for mine as I have the Toyota skirts.

Dear me thats really bad then, i know my brothers sills rotted out and had fake ones on and the Toyota drain holes in the rear base of the skirt and front side were missing so rain, mud, snow etc just sat inside the skirt as they also didnt sit flush on the base of the car so grime could get up into the skirts. :(

I suspect the damage caused by incorrect jack placement on this side of the car accelerated the corrosion process. The other side of the car which is undamaged still looks OK. I had a good look and prod around the skirt to see if there was any nastiness lurking behind :-)
