Hi all,

recently Eric Thompson bought the TRD front/centre LSD combo off ebay. From this, he has made enquiries with Kaaz about the possibility of reproducing the combo.
If you are interested, check out the thread below - it makes for some interesting possibilities ;)
http://www.alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic ... 43&t=51064

If you are seriously considering this, put your hand up on the thread at alltrac, or here if you don't have a login and I'll relay the info over :)

Cheers, Dave

Have now added you both in to the post. Will need to coordinate the names - maybe a google doc or something.

Anyone else?

A spreadsheet has been created to track interested buyers :)

Hopefully I've managed to add us to the spreadsheet :)

You have and I can see your details :)

Much easier tracking interested parties vs maintaining lists in forum posts

Josh (NZ) has added a column for gauging interest. Feel free to update :)

From rep at KAAZ

" 1. I have to guestimate on the pricing based on the past special orders we have done. Guessing on
the high side, the front / center combo unit will probably cost about $2500~$3200. Looking at the
schematic I have, the front unit is simple design and the center unit gets all the plates inside like
other Kaaz unit. Kaaz does own the patent to this unique design. I was told by the designer, that
this kit allows the front diff to lock up only when necessary. So the car will be two wheel drive and
when necessary it becomes AWD.
2. HP rating: Can’t guarantee anything but I would say about double the stock HP.
3. Document I have is so light and it is hard to read. Looks like front is 1.5 and center is a 2 way.
We can figure this out if Kaaz gives ok on this project.
4. If Kaaz does produce this kit, service parts will be available for several years. Most internal
components used are identical to other models (clutch plates, cams, pinion gears etc…). The only
thing that will be unique to this kit will be the casing for the front and center. Generally Kaaz do
not supply the casing as parts (only internal pieces are normally offered as parts).
5. Time frame: Normally design from scratch to actual product release will take about 5~6 months.
If they were to reproduce this kit, I am sure they will do some redesigning to make it stronger
than the old design."

To get this off the ground, Eric noted it may be 20-30 units and parts will be available afterwards *GT4OC.net

Updated list with my contact details. I see we are up to 24 units now. How many will commit is another matter. Let's hope it goes ahead.

I think that for 24 people to put their names forward shows there is serious interest from the global community, and I haven't even communicated to Europe, Asia or Africa yet.
Through the various facebook groups, there has also been some robust discussion as well, so hopefully people will see the activity and take some interest in learning more.

I haven't caught up with the latest discussion on Alltrac and other forums but as I understand it the proposal is for KAAZ to design a front LSD loosely based on the TRD plate diff and the OEM viscous centre diff would remain in place. I guess the OEM centre diff could be regarded as '2-way' but mechanically it's completely different to a plate or Torsen type diff.

Hi folks,

does i understand correct, kaaz produce a limited quantity (for that groupbuy) and nothing more, so no series production or produced to order?

Sunny, based on the availability of spares I guess you could always build one up from spare parts if you are not part of the group buy. This would probably be more expensive than buying a complete diff. You will still have to build the KAAZ into the standard casing. You have to do this with their rear LSD plate diff. The Cusco LSD also requires you to build the LSD into your own casing.
I think the main point is to get as many people as possible to commit to this so the economics of a production run make sense to KAAZ. Stick your name down and we will be up to 30 names https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M2TS1FLivhbjART-eOne1Tsst7F_0OPSsX8bih5095Q/edit#gid=0&vpid=A1

strange thing. As i remember toyota 4wd system central LSD helps to prevent sending 100% of torque to one of the front wheels when it has no grip (traction) , but this system can not be stated as 2wd and if necessary 4wd.
What i want to say - it can be pretty dangerous in tarmac events or time attack when you have 2wd and suddenly you getting 4wd. In modern cars such systems works with computer but KAAZ offers just mechanical stuff.

Before "get in" just want understand what that designer means...
What do you think?
