Small update.....

Fitted the brake pressure sensors last weekend and successfully tested the output on the C125 dash. Tried varying the cockpit brake balance adjuster and sure enough the results were clear to see on the dash :) The plan is to secure the sensors using 'P' clips to the side of the brake balance/reservoir frame. Should look quite neat. We were quite lucky as the sensor lines needed only minimal bleeding. The trick was to use a small syringe to empty the brake reservoirs before we fitted the double height banjo bolts then we just needed refill the reservoirs and bleed the lines where they attached to the sensors. I was expecting to have to bleed the entire brake system at the calipers so this was a good result :D

Apologies for the poor quality of the dash pics. They just don't do it justice but it will give you some idea of the different styles of display we have for Race, Practice and Dyno. Still have to finalise exactly what config file to upload. Now we know how to set this up and test the file on the laptop before uploading it can be done any time.

Currently under construction is the small M800 to M130 adaptor loom. Although most of the pins are the same we decided to go for the adaptor loom as it gives the flexibility to swap ECU's in the future. The ECU plugs are readily available Tyco items.

There's not much left to do now before we trailer to car down to Oxford for the next phase of the engine and ECU work. Hopefully sometime in March.

Well it wasn't March but May after we discovered the issues with the fuel system installation which needed fixing.

With the wiring looms now complete the next stage of the work is to fit, configure and map the MoTeC M130. There are a few little jobs to be done first. The latest thinking is to take the cam trigger sensor output off the standard dizzy but this was a bit beyond what we could do so we decided to leave it to Owens to sort out. They are also going to Zircotec (ceramic coat) the exhaust manifold, turbine and downpipe. I committed the cardinal sin of buying the turbo too early in the project. Technology has moved on so looking at the options which are now available. The aim is not maximum horsepower but reliability coupled with fast throttle response and good torque. This will make the engine more driveable on twisty circuits, hillclimbs etc.

To transport the car we borrowed a Brian James trailer from one of Steve's neighbours who runs a Metro 6R4 in demo rally events. I think it was slightly longer than my old BJ trailer but it was the same width. The width meant that it was quite tight getting the car loaded. The wheels are not especially wide at 8" and ET35 but it was noticeable that the rear geometry has been set up with more negative camber which effectively increases the track. Anyway, eventually we got the car loaded and the journey down to Owens was through a violent rainstorm. It took a lot longer than we expected with the bad weather and roadworks delaying progress. When we arrived at Owens the poor car was saturated so we used an air line to blow the water out of the engine bay. This was followed by a detailed discussion with Mark going through the job sheet and Steve explaining the way he had built the looms.

Some pics of the move:

Looking great, I'm excited to see the car progress. I look forward to seeing it in the flesh some time :)

Thanks Edd, another milestone achieved in the project! Should be running very soon then its just the remaining body panels which need painting. I'm sure there will be the inevitable 'new car' issues so the track testing will be an important part of the post-build, pre-race phase.

Two steps forward and one back sums it up. I've been waiting till we get the car running and mapped before updating the thread. It's been a bit of a saga. Should be something to report in the next few weeks.

Always good to hear the problems with a build too, knowledge shared :)

Who's mapping?
