I have decided that I will need to go to a stand alone ECU, at present I run a blue emanage piggy back unit, and I want rid of the AFM, but one of the problems I have is that my car is a 185 RC model and there just don't seem to be that many plug and play units for the 185 RC.

Would have liked as first choice to go for an apexi FC but from what I've read it seems a bit of a tasks.

So are there any plug & play units for the 185 RC and if not which other ones are best suited .

Was hoping to get something at around the £1000. mark not including mapping.

i believe the most cost effective route is to rewire the loom to accept a 205 ecu, then plug a powerfc in instead

AFAIK there is no plug and play solution for the 165/185

wolf 3d do a plug and play ecu for the 185, but as for peeps that are familar with it and can map it is probs very far and few between.

i found this ems system when i thinking about turning my ae92 corolla into a beast!..lol.... all the aussie rolla boys have tham on there cars, bit of an aussie thing though, this is why i haven't got one, still tempted to go ginea pig stlye and go for this, you can get a little dash mounted screen (like the apexi pfc just smaller) for it

Looking like I might go for the Hydra Nemissess unit as it is a plug & play unit and you don't have to fit a seperate map sensor to remove the AFM as a map sensor is built into the unit.

Would like to hear other peoples thoughts on this system.

There are a lot of amazing ECU's out there - Just make sure that it is sufficiently supported by tuners in the Uk and near you or else you need to get learning quick how to map cars! paying for a tuner to learn a new ECU is an expensve business even if you can convince them to do it.

Who maps the hydra nemesis m8? before i parted with my money I woudl want to have a good chat with them and for them to convince me they new about the 3sgte and mapping. The hardware is only part of the equation.

I went full circle on the whole ECU debate 18 months ago. Power Fc, Autronic, MoTec & DTA with maybe some of the lesser known briefly considered. I came down to a choice of Autronic or PFC. ££ won over feature in the end as mine is a road car used on track not a race car used on road - you have to be realistic about these things

Agree 100% with everything you have said, I am looking at getting it fitted and mapped by tracktive the company that distribute the hydra in this country. one of the factors that helped is Smithy is running one of these ECU's

Have been on the phone to them this morning and they are actually doing a 185 today belongs to somebody Chris so I'm hoping he will post up on one of the forums on how it goes.

As this is propable the last major mod I will do to the car unless i blow the engine am hoping it will not need mapped to often.

As you say mine is an every day car which is used on the 1/4 mile when i get a chance

sounds like you have done all the donkey work to be a good guinea pig

would be good to have more options and competition for the few established gt4 ecu suppliers. How much is this working out to with fitting & mapping m8?

Have been quoted a price of around £1500 for the full thing fitted, which includes a custom made loom and the first mapping session and he requires the car for about 3 days as they say the cold start injector can be hard to get mapped in right.

This seem a good price to me but as yet haven't talked to the likes of DTA and don't know of anywhere that supplies and fits the Apexi.

Apexi = Thor for fitting & mapping - cost is unknown at the mo for the St185. I woudl expect it to be circa £500-£600 though taking the total £ to circa £1100-£1200.

DTA = no idea.

Autronic appears to be circa £2000 fitted & mapped by Mark Shead (MA developpments)

MoTec = circa £2000 fitted & mapped by anyone.

Are you purchasing the boost control module or the wideband setup? The Hydra has Auto tune of the fuelling which is a nice feature oh and knock maps;-) - I would be very tempted by this kit m8. Some top facilities - You just have to hope the only Uk supplier and mapper is upto the job. Hopefully Ian.S has doen the donkey work for you! Woudl be nice to get some feedback from him.

i still suggest you discuss your requirements with local 3sgte mapper: mr paul bartello.
from what i have heard this chap can lend his hand to mapping a variety of ecu's. i understand that smithy is condsidering tweeking his hydra unit with Paul.

stick local for advice and ease of mapping.

The thing that pees me off with the Hydra is that, like the MoTeC you have to add on extra bits
Other than this it does seem to run all of the features that I'd want and until I found the above would have been my weapon of choice

So while the unit is capable of closed loop fuelling adjustment you have to pay for it and it will only work with the Hydra wideband kit

There's tons of info about it. MR Controls in the US is a good source of info with a couple of interesting articles
THere's also the hydra forum online Although it's not phenominally active it might give some insights as to who you could hit up online for advice.
This thread is also a good source of info, both good and bad....
MR Controls is a good place to start though as they are pretty focussed on the MR2 which will be pretty dashed similar to the 185
