Hi everyone,
just used my GT4 RC for the first time after the winter break and put the air conditioning on to lubricate all the seals etc. I noticed that the green light on the AC button started winking at me. If I pressed the AC Economy light next to it, it did exactly the same. There was a delay of about 30 seconds where it’s on full time before it starts flashing.
I had also noticed a belt squeal from under the bonnet 3 times whilst driving slowly or at idle on the way home from work in the first 5 minutes of running the car, I put that down to condensation on the belt as it was just getting dark and it did stop after that.
The AC does seem to produce cold air, but it’s difficult to tell at this time of year as the air is cold anyway.

So I’m thinking to myself, has an AC fuse or relay gone?
Is the compressor failing or seizing which would cause the squeal?

I was wondering if anyone else had had this happen to them and could pass on any advice to help me get to the bottom of this and fix it quickly?

Thanks,

Louise

Hi, the problem has been sorted, it was a low level of R12 gas (refrigerant that destroyed the ozone layer) causing the flashing light.

I've had the car converted to run on R134a (current industry standard refrigerant).

The conversion requires:
Changing the compressor to a Gen 6 compressor (second hand from from TCB)
Cleaning out all the pipework to remove the old oil.
Replacing all the O' rings with R134a compatible green ones.
Replacing the dryer receiver
Changing the 1/4" charging point to a modern quick fitting
Using PAG46 oil and filling and pressure checking with R134a gas.

If anyone wants more details let me know, but it works very well now and should be future proofed.

:D
