Howdy !

How easy is it to break a Greddy Profec B Spec II ??

I installed it and it worked perfectly for about 3 weeks, until one day I booted it and realised I had no control over boost whatsoever. The strange thing was that even if I switched the controller off, I couldn't return to stock boost (0.7 bar), without switching the ignition off and on again.

Anyway, after trying another solenoid, new hoses etc, I have re-enabled the VSV, put in back to standard and its works fine (back up to 0.9 bar).

So apart from the wiring harness, looks like the controller has died.

Anyone else had similar issues / know why this has happened ??

ps. i was only runnning at 1.1bar !!!!

Ta.

You say you can't get stock boost without turning the engine off and on again? Is it boosting too high or too low in that scenario?

If the controller is off and the boost is being affected from stock then I would say either the solenoid is knackered or there is a fault elsewhere.

Since it behaves when the EBC is removed I'd say it was the solenoid. Unless there is a leak at the solenoid connection itself.

Hi Candyman

Yeah it was still boosting too high with the EBC off.

I have tried another solenoid, but still the same thing.

Can you list what symptoms you got in what instances.

EG EBC removed. runs fine
EBC fitted and on. OVerboost
EBC fitted and off. Overboost

etc

Was it the same amount of overboost with controller on and off?

IS the EBC reading the boost level correctly? (I believe it has a boost gauge mode where it will show the pressure reading)

Unless it sees boost it will keep the solenoid closed and if you have tried a known good solenoid that kind of rules it out

If you can swap solenoids can you also swap EBCs to check that

Also, I'd try the following
Connect the EBC sensor pipe to a pressure source (bike pump etc) and apply pressure. As pressure goes up you should hear the solenoid start to click

Also, are you sure the solenoid is plumbed in correctly. IF it's anything like mine (profec e-01) it's a 3 port job - 1 common, 1 normally closed (to common) and one normally open (to common). You need to plumb it in so the normally open circuit is between the turbo and the actuator

Also (again not sure if the profec B has this :!: ) check that the EBC is set up correctly. Mine has a setting for internal or external wastegates and getting this wrong tends to really mess things about

Also, what gain/duty are you running?
I used to need 64 duty to hit 1.1 bar.

The Profec B-Spec solenoidis 2 port and doesn't have an external wastegate setting.

Why does an external wastegate need a different mode?

Guys

Instances are :-

EBC off when engine swtiched on - normal boost @ 0.7 bar.

EBC on - overboost ( no control at all -although i daren't take it past 1.2 bar)

EBC then switched off whilst engine running - exactly the same as above ( seems to be no control at all.

Seems to be reading boost correctly, as I have the Peak mode on. When it happened the 1st time it read 23.0 psi ( oops). I've turned all of the settings down, but cant get anything.

Definitely plumbed in correctly as well. NO to turbo compressor, COM to Actuator.

As before, i did have it working perfectly for 3 weeks. I did wonder if it was the harness from the solenoid to the controller that was causing the problem ??

Thanks
