Some of you know, I have swapped a jdm st205 engine and ecu into my 185. From what I understand the 205 has an electronic speed limiter.

I purchased a HKS 1st gen speed cut defensor a while back and I was curious if this could be made to work on a 205? If not, what solution can I attempt to remove the speed cut.

I mostly want it gone for when I do track days.

thanks,
JC

Here in the UK, JDM imports have to get their speedos changed from kph to mph so they can be legally road-registered. The speed limiter is normally removed at the same time. I always assumed the limiter was enabled via the electronic dash which takes the speed signal from the electronic sensor on top of the gear casing. Sorry I'm short on detail.

I guess I should mention my engine never went to the UK. I am in the USA. So it is still in jap spec.

Thanks anyway.

as far as i know the speed signal goes to the back of the cluster then on to ecu.

the normal way is to cut into both feeds with the speedo convertor which has 1 input but 2 outputs. output 1 is generally the input divided down to perform kmh->mph conversion. this is connected back to the instruments which then read mph. output 2 is the same but limited to a given max speed. this is connected to the ecu to perform speed cut removal

Assuming your clocks read right you dont need all this whizbang stuff
if you are not using the standard boost control cut the vss feed into the ecu
if you are using stock boost control you'll cut vss to the ecu and reconnect it with the speed cut defender

I've got an HKS FCD on my 205. This is fitted just before the speed sonsor input to the ECU.

Works fine and has been reliable...

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention, that i also use the 185 gear driven speed sensor and the 185 cluster.

I will be sure and test this speed limit out, once my new parts get here. :D

A "sonsor" is a performance upgrade only found on the 205 ;)

I have some more details on the wiring if you need it?

Does anyone still occasionally get code 42 with this installed? Mine runs fine most of the time but sometimes it gives me a speed sensor error.
